It was supposed to be great start of a new season last night until a typical play at second base ended the year for Michael Russell. While trying to tag a West Meck. runner trying to get back to second base, Michael and the runned collided and Michael broke both bones in in his leg.
Michael being the player he is, still tried to make the play while laying on his back in pain. That is what I call a GAMER.
My families hopes and prayers go out to Michael and his family for a speedy recovery.

I hate to hear the news on Michael. Like i previously mention Michael Russell is one of my favorite players to watch play. Michael is one of the best kids you could meet and such a competitor that i have no doubt he will bounce back from this a better player, which is a scary thought because he is so damn good now.

Words cannot describe Michael, his ability or his dedication to the game and his teammates. He will be back stronger than ever and he through his accident has galvanized his team giving them a real purpose for this season. I know that as soon as he is able he will be in the dugout with his teammates and lifelong friends acting as their inspirational leader. Michael's value to the team goes beyond the field and we are all praying for a swift recovery.

    Update

Michael just went to recovery last night from surgery. They expect to have him to his room and resting

The surgery went very well – bones lined up perfectly
n The break was ½ way in between the ankle and knee it was a complete break of both bones.
n On the x-ray you see they were sort of jagged so they must have gone back together tightly
Michael gets extra points from his doctor for drinking milk - because his bones were so strong the doctor was impressed. They will splint his leg now and he will be sporting a teammates crutches for the next 2 weeks. After that he will be revaluated and possibly move to a boot that he can walk on. The doctors were much more encouraging after having completed the surgery about his recovery time. He may be able to do limited throwing or batting sooner than later – It will be a while before he is running again. Now with the screws are in, the bones won’t move – they are expecting that to reduce his pain level significantly.
Although he had a rough night last night they are hopeful that he will be able to go home today.:fan_wave2:

Thanks for the update on Michael. His friends from North Meck wish him well and will miss playing against him this spring. But we hope to see him back out there with Legion Post 321 this summer.

Michael is a great talent and a fine person. One of his teammates from last summer called him "one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet." Here's to a speedy recovery.
