Middle School Bat Rules?

Do bat rules (oz. drop) vary by counties in NC? Or is it regulated by the state?

 

I'm pretty sure that it is NOT state regulated but most use a -3. Guilford specifies a -3 while Forsyth doesn't have middle school ball directly at the school but has programs affiliated with the school. Pretty sure they also use -3. Private schools in Forsyth use bats of all weights. That I know 1st hand. Not sure about the rest of the state. It is a -5oz. max here in Buncombe County.

You're preaching to the choir. personally I have always been a fan of a -5 in Middle School.

 

in caldwell we can use -5 or -3. most 8th graders getting ready for hs will try to use a -3. From what i have seen most kids dont care about batsize they just all want to swing the newest bat that someone brings out there.

 

I remember those days. Kid gets a new bat, then it's dad I need one of those. Dad buys, then a couple months later. The new version is out and is all over again. What we do for our kids. It is like the movie "The Money Pit" but takes place on the ballfield. But, I would not have traded it for the money back plus interst. The memories of that first home run, stole base, or play at the plate, made all that money worth it.

 

Davidson County middle school baseball is non-school suported but has been succesfull. We use 3 oz. for our "A" league and 5 oz. for our "B" league if they choose to use it. We feel although offense may suffer, the players develop strength and feel of the bat. Are all players ready for it? No, but you have to start at some point...........

 

My understanding is that it varies among MS conferences... MS athletics is regulated by NCDPI, not the NCHSAA so NCHSAA policies my not always be adhered to.... In our MS Conference we use -3 bats..
