Middle School Softball In Forsyth Co.?

Can anyone verify if Forsyth County offers middle school softball? There were 4 quality Forsyth teams that made it to the state playoffs this year (West Forsyth, Glenn, North Forsyth, and Mount Tabor. 3 of the 4 advanced to the second round) and I don't see how so many teams can be that successful without middle school softball offered. There must be quite a few quality travel teams in the area these girls play on.

Unfortunately, Forsyth Co. does not offer softball, baseball or football in middle school. The funds are in the budget, but the school board chooses to fund other non-athletic programs instead. This really puts the Forsyth Co. kids behind in these sports when they get to high school.

 

I coach H.S. M.S. and Summer fastpitch. To be honest the vast majority of middle school teams are not that competitive. At least in CMS. The few schools with good feeder programs (rec and or summer ballclubs) win game after game. Its more like rec ball with better uniforms. If your area has a few summer / travel programs, you will have a good H.S. program. The reason is two fold. Summer teams work out at lease ten months of the year, and play for about eight. That gives coaches more time to develop good fundamentals. The girls also play better teams and more games. We have girls in M.S. for about ten days before our first game and must use three of those for try-outs. If the girls dont come to the field with experience there is just no time to teach it all. So if you dont have the summer travel teams already, you may want to think about starting a program it will pay off in the long run way more then getting upset over the politics of Middle School sports. I too work with middle schoolers but in this area most play and/or workout 10 to 11 months on their skills(rec and travel ball) while the local middle school reaps the benefits. Just not time during their short season to teach fundamentals and as Dawg mentioned.....

we here in forsyth tried to get a couple of middle schools playing softball for the last two years. my kids both go to clemmons middle and we've really tried to get it going. this year we had 14(i think) kids sign up county wide. don't know why there was no interest. with as many travel teams in the area as there are it looks like we would have a boatload. oh well if at first you don't succeed try try again.:xyzthumbs

 

GREAT attitude Dont give up keep plugging and go to some tournaments wit some of your girls, if only to watch. Encorage them to work HARD in the off season. and it will happen.
