    Top 200 list

What you have to understand this not only includes all hs seniors it includes every draft elgible college player in the nation. There are a ton of guys that will be drafted not on that list. Its around 1,500 or so.

Also some kids have made it clear that they will not accept the money in their projected draft slot over going to play college baseball. These are the players that more than likely will go undrafted and people will say "What happened?" A perfect example would be a Josh Horton who went undrafted out of hs. He made it clear that he was not going to turn down the opportunity to play college baseball for the money he was going to offered. Hence no one wasted a draft pick on him. This happens all the time.

Many go undrafted because they have made it clear before the draft that they are not willing to take what they will be offered in the draft. Many are drafted because they make it clear all they want to do is sign and start their professional career. Its not as simple as the best get drafted.

You are right, but I really don't think signability is a factor in top 200 lists.

You are absolutely correct. And some high profile guys still get drafted in the later rounds with the hope they still will sign...like Daniel Bard 20th round- he was offered 7 figures.

I remember Jeremy Synans @ NC State let it be known what it would take for him to consider the draft....He would have been a top 5 round pick, but he went undrafted. To be honest, HS players are much more savvy these days about the draft and many understand the benefit of going to school. To me, unless you are a getting life changing money or you are not academically inclined to continue higher education...it's a no brainer what to decide.

Since we are talking about draftable players, this is kind of a neat story. Justin Smoak, probably be selected 1-2 or 3 in the draft, could have received a 100% athletic scholarship to USC if he wanted. Instead, he is receiving nothing. He told Tanner to use his on recruiting a great teammate......quality kid, I'd say.

Smoak will be in Raleigh playing this weekend. The guy can flat our rake, and lightning quick wrists.

I had written a longer reply but don't post much and erased it by accident, but here is the summary:

    1. Alex White was highly sought after by ML teams but he went to Carolina...could Messer be in the same boat? (YES, but not as much as White)

    2. I like Michael better than Lassiter at SS, but both can play.

    3. Many JUCO guys know they are just missing the money they want to be drafted, so they go to JUCO and re-up for the draft one year later if they play gerat. Draft and follows use to be huge for players doing this, but they no longer exists.

    4. Gore has a lower fielding percentage than most D-1 (and especially top tier program) SS. His is lower than UNCW, NCSU, Miami, FSU, etc. Had the stats but deleted them. Feel free to check yourself, but Gore is not a big time SS. He won't be drafted this year. Nice kid but I do not think he'll be the UNC SS next year.

    5. Smoak can rake, he started slow this year but is now hitting .377 with 21 bombs. Tough draw for the Wolfpack. It is really too bad NCSU didn't step up and get Tanner the facilities he wanted when he was in Raleigh. He is a great coach.

    6. Look for one, maybe two HS pitchers to sign this year in the MLB draft. I'd say no more than 3 position players sign, and it could be 0. 5 HS guys where drafted out of HS in 05, 3 out of 6 drafted signed in 06, and 8 of 11 drafted signed in 07. This year I am going to guess 2 sign out of 4 NC HS players drafted (please realize this is quite hard to predict...last year I thought it would be 6 out of 8, but it is fun to predict.)

Tim Federowicz (catcher, UNC) is number 169 on the list.
