MLB Draft-NC players

What a tough

situation. UNC is hosting in Cary. NCSU is hosting in Raleigh. The HS state finals are in Zebs Lawn and Greensboro. Not only is UNC hosting UNCW and Elon are playing in the same regional. There is no way I am going to miss RM and ER. And since I will already be there I got to see AK and GR. But my good friend Richard Reynolds the Assistant Coach at Orange and Dean Dease the HC are playing for a State Title in Greensboro. I just hate that I have no choice but to miss some of this. I sure wish there was some way for all four HS series could be played at the same venue. And the regionals were next weekend instead of this weekend.

 

I can't imagine there is a hotel vacancy in Raleigh area available. So many decisions..what game? what game? I'm with you coach...couldn't they do this differently

 

NCHSAA Could Plan Ahead

I would suggest that all the games be at the USA baseball facility in Cary. They have 4 great fields, are centrally located in the state, and would let everybody see all the teams. They could even look at a calendar ahead of time and reset the schedule so it is not the same weekend as NCAA regionals AND the week before final exams in most schools. That would also be a nice nod to ACADEMICS for high school students.

Sorry, but this seems a bit OBVIOUS to me for the NCHSAA.

What college did Coach Josh Simmons play ? Was he a pitcher or position player in college ?

 

I think that he was the starting shortstop at UNC-Charlotte. He may have been All-Conference his junior and senior years. Not sure if he got drafted or not. I am sure someone knows that played with him at Charlotte.

 

Not sure about that, as the post above says UNC Charlotte. Very well could have. Surry's web site says he got his degrees from East Carolina, but he could have finished there after playing at Charlotte, I'm not sure. I've heard numerous good things about him as a coach though.

You can't do it around final exams, because different schools do exams at different times. To avoid exams altogether you'd have to avoid a 3-week window, and the championships have got to come at some point during this time period.
