MLB Draft starts today: Rounds 1-50

Int.Coach,,,,, read today's Salisbury Post, it explains how Zach was once considered a top 50 pick but certain circumstances led to him falling some.

More than likely, he's not returning to GarnerWebb. He'll get a good deal as a 3rd rounder, and we're all wishing him the best in pro ball...

Only one pick behind formerly projected 1st round pick Justin Bristow.

You hit it right on the nose with your comments. I cannot speak for Jeremy Synan but Drew Taylor set his "signability" if you will at 3rd/4th round money. There was nothing to lose yesterday. Going to NC State for 3 yrs plus getting bigger, stronger, and hopefully better is NOT a bad thing. There were plenty of discussions going on from 5th round thru the 10th rounds but Drew made up his mind late Monday on a minimum $$$$$ figure and committed to not changing it. He is excited to go and pitch at NC State and hopefully go thru this again in 3 years. Now, was he dissapointed?? Of course. Everyone wants to hear their name called but it has to make since for both sides.

The main thing is he's good today!! He's happy!! Coach Avents happy!! He spent some time this morning with Coach Roberts over at NC State and went over the plan for the summer. Everythings good!

... I have no idea ... but to give you an example, this year, the draft has a larger number of college players taken than most any year I can remember.

As the number of college players goes up, the number of HS players goes down ... the HS players get pushed to lower rounds in the draft by the large number of college players ..... the HS players don't want to commit in the later rounds so they go to college ... and the cycle continues.

The question is this: Is this a permanent change? Is the MLB draft going to continue to be college dominated? If you aren't one of the top 75 players in the nation in HS should you forget about the draft?

Well, ... the answer is no ... If seen draft picks taken in the 20th round and later that are ranked as high as 150th in the nation and others that weren't ranked at all. A few in the 500's ... but more ranked about 150-200 nationally than most any other number.

Round 20-25 isn't great money. If these guys have an option, they may go on to college and be back in the draft in 3 years.

Note: Through the first 25 rounds, only 200 HS players had been selected.
