Doing a little analysis on the first 25 rounds, you can see the perception of signability issues affecting the teams choices.
    Round, # Col/Juco's,# HS
    Rounds 1-5: 108, 62
    Rounds 5-10: 113, 37
    Rounds 11-15: 123, 27
    Rounds 16-20: 107, 43
    Rounds 21-25: 116, 34

After round #25, the picks are all over the place.

Just wondering. How was Hempy drafted as a Sophomore at USC? He is a 2003 grad., and only been in college for two years.

    Congratulations though!

Man, I love this for Damien ... one of the hardest working young men you would ever want to meet.

His family moved down here from Pennsylvania when he was beginning his junior year of HS. They were transfered back to PA after a year, but Damien stayed, living in an apartment on his own as he completed his senior year.

Most kids wouldn't have gotten out of bed to go to class at that age, but not Damien ... he's worked his tail off to get better, stronger and faster.

    WAY TO GO DAMIEN !!!!!!!!!!!

    You Never Know

Well, that's it. The draft is over and it is so unpredictable.....projected first round picks not being taken until later rounds, etc. The South Atlantic Conference had four pitchers selected....Matt Trent and Eric Brown of Wingate, Russell Haltiwanger of Newberry College, and Eric Butler of Tusculum. All juniors I believe. Tusculum's Brent Gabel, the most talked about pitcher in the SAC this year, and the one that everyone thought would be a definite pick, was not drafted. He struggled a little bit late in the season, so maybe that was a factor.

I liked the Texas Ranger's pick at No. 1439..... Broc Coffman, left handed pitcher from Lower Columbia College, listed as 0'-0", 0 lbs. Sounds like they really did their homework on this pick.

I'm surprised neither Matt Camp (NC State) or Greg Mangum (North Carolina) were taken. I would have thought at least one of them would go. Boy, talk about two really good athletes.
