With about six weeks until the MLB draft, who are the N.C. high school seniors getting attention. I would imagine Brian Goodwin (Rocky Mount), Will Myers (Wesleyan), Daniel Tuttle (Randleman), Nick McBride (Ragsdale), and Richie Shaffer (Providence-until he got hurt) were receiving interest, but who else are scouts going to see ?

Tyler Joyner-Northern Nash, Bryan Mitchell-Rockingham, Parker Thomas- Mount Tabor, and Chris Munnelly-Forsyth Country Day are all pitchers receiving interest from pro scouts.

Jeremy is a 5 tool guy who runs the 60 in 6.75. He has signed to play for Coach Lowe at Surry. Not sure on height, 6"1 I would guess. Can flat out run it down in CF

    Stay in school....

these kids have some great skills and talent. Not sure they would go high enough to call it a living. Living a dream or missing a chance to improve & grow. Tough choice. Think about before signing the dotted line.

    Draft notes from MLB site

NEW YORK -- Major League Baseball's amateur draft is shifting to prime time.

The commissioner's office said Tuesday that this year's draft will start at 6 p.m. on June 9 and be held at the studios of the MLB Network in Secaucus, N.J.

There will be 111 picks on the first day, which includes the first three rounds mixed in with two compensation rounds.

Wil Myers is a jack-of-all-trades for Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point , North Carolina, although his most likely pro future is as a catcher. He's a great athlete who has suited up around the diamond, including a good chunk of time at third base, but who can also play short and pitch. His build is that of a typical third baseman, and he might outgrow catching, but he's good enough back there with good energy and a plus arm that whoever drafts him is almost certain to try him behind the plate. As a hitter, he has an explosive bat, accelerating his wrists late and generating hard contact with excellent plate coverage inside and away. He has a slight leak that is minimized by a short stride, but his wrists are quick enough that he can compensate for it against mediocre high school pitching. Even if he was strictly a third baseman, he'd be a first rounder, but the potential for a front-line offensive catcher makes him a potential top 20 pick.

Brian Goodwin is one of the better high school athletes in the southeast this year, but he's pretty raw as a baseball player and may end up playing the outfield at North Carolina, where he could easily develop into a high first-round pick. Goodwin is a plus runner, but more grade 60 than 70, meaning that he's fast but not in the league of burners like Joey Gathright. He shows good range and a plus arm in center, although he could use some work running routes. At the plate, Goodwin has good bat speed but overstrides and has a tendency to lunge; he doesn't project to have plus power but would have some pop and improve his chances of making contact if he stayed back instead of striding and flinging the bat at the ball. A team that favors the athlete and wants to roll the dice on developing an impact guy in the middle of the field could look at Goodwin late first or sandwich, although he's expected to be a tough sign.
