    The more I think about it...

    If I was good enough and fortunate enough to have been drafted out of high school, I would of signed in a heartbeat. You get to live the dream... travel around the country, "live" Bull Durham, see the big guys behind the scenes, sign autographs, play in BFE towns in front of various types of crowds, etc..... School can wait!

    Kenny Swab (East Forsyth/Young Harris/Virginia) was drafted in the 35th round by the Atlanta Braves!

    Dustin Harrington was drafted by Cubs in the 32 rd. Great Job Dustin. Former Heat player and Alexander Central.

    At 18 I thought the same way. At 44 I see the value of 3 years of college then "living the dream". Not to mention coeds and being a BMOC. Long bus rides are overrated. Assuming of course we are not talking about high draft picks and lots of $$$.

    Without doing the research, I would think it very rare that a kid gets drafted out of hs but not again out of college.

    Regardless of what they decide, congrats to all drafted, what an honor.

    Lets see...long bus rides; crappy hotels; bad food; $1,000 a month pay; moving from one city to another on a moments notice; a team on which many dont speak english. If you get drafted out of HS you'll get drafted out of college. The education, the life experience and friends you make in college are irreplaceable IMHO.

    :trampoline:I agree. Plus if it doesn't work out in 3-5 years, what are you going to do then? 22-23 yo and start college? Rarely happens.

    Well I went to college (two colleges)... And I am still primarily closest to my high school friends with a few exceptions, and the woman I married was from a town smaller than a couple city neighborhoods.

    Sign the dotted line, Jump on a bus! PLAY BALL!!

    Schools overrated :)

    Dirk Hayhurst's new book, "The Bullpen Gospels," is not only one of the best baseball books i have ever read, but the most honest description of what life in the minors is like. Every high school kid who is drafted should read it before signing. For some, it will drive them to college. For others, it will sound like just what they are looking for at this stage of life.
