maybin's far from a sure thing to make the majors. only 10% of all players drafted make it to the majors and about 40 % of first rounders. joch hamilton #1 overall from raleigh a sure thing? out of baseball for 3 years. brien tayleor #1 over to the yankees hurt in a fight out of baseball

    yes

yeah, I saw other posts where kids were being congratulated for being drafted by certain teams, with comments like ......... "________ will be great in Boston or Chicago, or wherever". get real folks, the chances are very very slim that any of the local players will make it to a major league team. look at all the players you have to compete against not just from the USA, but also Central America, Mexico, Japan, etc (global). Minor league money is not great.

yes congrats are in order for a huge accomplishment of being drafted & dreaming & striving for goals is great, but I hope the kids prepare themselves for life after baseball, cause most of the time it comes quick.

Sure, it is still just a dream for them, but I'm not going to rain on their parade. But I agree with your sentiments about being prepared for after baseball.

and about Cameron Maybin. He is ranked 31st right now of all of the players in minor leagues. Since Lastings Milledge was brought up by the Mets this week and I'm sure Delmon Young will, too, after serving his suspension; Cameron will be as sure a bet as anyone else to be brought up in the next few years. He is a better talent...and about him preparing for his future. Cameron has great parental support. They've banked his money and put him on a budget. They have prepared for everything!! Cameron will be fine no matter what he does
