How many more kids need to die before allumum bats are banned? It is just not safe and not fair there is no need for them lets do away with them.

let me chime in a bit with a a bit of legal logic. The real crux of the matter her is that there is an industry standard. Each bat must undergo tests to ensure that the speed of the ball off the bat does not exceed "X". If it does it gets the official stamp and is compliant with industry standards. If it doesnt it is deemed too hot, ergo unsafe, and does not get the stamp and may not be used.

The issue here is the effect of continued use has on composite bats. We all know that such use makes the bats hotter and if there were returned for testing they would fail to meet the MPH standard at that point. The manufacturers know this. Herein lies the problem. They are making a product that they know will become unsafe with continued use.

Think about this the next time you have a bat "rolled" or "shaved".

That's why the people that alter the bats make you sign those releases that you won't use the bats where they are illegal. That you will only use them in home run derbies, i.e.

I wonder what the effect is on the reaction time for infielders for a bat that will hit a ball 40 or 50 feet farther than a legal bat?

I agree with this statement, and the legality in this case should have been the bat that was used be tested and if found to be illegal by the manufacturers. Then the lawsuit should have been alot larger than 850,000.But my theory is base hits and defense wins games. But HomeRuns wins money. As this subject shows.I still believe safety equipment in baseball will reduce injuries.Atleast lessen fatalities.

i was told by a really reliable source that some of the major companies have stopped their production of all composite bats. the company that most know i am very familiar with has not stopped the production of double wall bats, but is concentrating on bringing out a line of single wall bats, which makes sense i guess.

i havent confirmed it yet, but was told by a local D2 AD that someone in her family who works at ASA has stated that the meeting/and or decision about banning such bats has been moved up and the response will be out quite soon, in her estimate, prior to hs ball being played.

    we shall see.

i have also been told directly by a local top insurance rep that insurance rates will go up astronomically for tournament/hs play if these bats are not banned in the near future, in part, due to this case, and the dramatic increase of "on field" injuries attributed to composite/double wall bats.

which explains why california has in most cases, banned everything except single wall bats.

this should be interesting to watch as it plays out and any confirmable information that i acquire will be posted here.....

and now, back to your local channel :10:

I have cousin, who has a friend......

......who knows the sister in law of a guy who works at a recycling bin who has the inside track on THE VERY best aluminum for the bat makers! WHAT? Love ya Cheeze, and BTW, poking fun in general, not at you brother,.......BUT WOW!!!!!

What in the cotten picken cornfield is going on with the bat issue?
No doubt, all the best to the family who lost a loved one.

    God bless!

Now let me move forward, ....No jokes, I'm serious asking....
    1. What makes a bat hot ?
    2. What makes a bat hotter after a kid hits with it for a while?
    3. Do we need to move the pitchers circle back?
    4. Why not lower the compression of the softball?
    5. Equipment, uhh you mean like helmets? why do they have facemasks but NO chinstraps?

Sports are played under an umbrella that , well just allows for injuries.
Thats kinda cold, but its the truth....just look at your ticket when you go to a PGA tourn. If you get hit by the pill from Tiger, well sorry, don't call you lawyer.

Last!! and I mean last, I know kids as ya'll know kids who could catch a BB in the dark, and hit a butterbean with a tobacco stick, and put a wood bat in their grips and they'll slam the ball right back up the middle!

    Raise the Bar.

    1. What makes a bat hot ? No opinion.
    2. What makes a bat hotter after a kid hits with it for a while? A greater trampoline effect is created as the material is broken down. A slower, natural process than the technique of "rolling."
    3. Do we need to move the pitchers circle back? No, 43' is fine.
    4. Why not lower the compression of the softball? That would not eliminate the problem of the bat variables. The problem would still be there.
    5. Equipment, uhh you mean like helmets? why do they have facemasks but NO chinstraps? It's my understanding chinstraps are required.

We don't need to put the kids in a plastic bubble. But there is danger that is unreasonable and unnecessary. The technology exists that can make a ball come off a bat so fast that no one would be fast enough to react to.

If the playing field were level (equipment-wise) then the actual skill of the players would be the primary variable. If wood bats are the answer, so be it. If composite bats that can be made equivalent and unalterable are made, so be it.

Everyone knows there is danger in the game; that's acceptable, there is risk in about everything. The unnecessary danger is the bottom line issue. The game can be just as, or more, enjoyable with bats that are equivalent to wood. Then it's all about the player, her ability, her size, etc. That brings the danger down to a level we can live with.

The evolution of baseball and softball has seen the use of gloves, helmets, facemasks, helmet cages, shin guards, safety bases, etc. Why? Because people aren't stupid. Who wants to get hurt playing a game? More importantly, who wants a kid to get hurt with an injury that could have lifelong effects? Especially when those injuries could be reduced without negatively affecting the game.
