How big of a difference is it from 14U moving to 16U?

This is one of the smaller steps , but every level you go up the game gets faster.

i don't think its that big of a step, because a lot of elite 16u's play 18u. 10-12 is the hardest adjustment, because of puberty, and the growth of girls between age ten and thirteen. 12-14 is hard, but not that bad. A good 14u team can beat mediocre 16u's.

    One point

Along with the game being faster, in 16U the pitchers start being able to control their placement and movement a lot more. 14U pitching seemed a bit all over the road.

players are stronger, faster, more skilled which translates into the "game is faster." You'll see more pitches, movement, change of speed and control. Catchers have stronger arms and many fewer WP/PBs. Infielders have stronger arms, outfields get much better jumps. Short game players are faster and more skilled at attacking. .............. I could go on but you get the point.

As the game gets faster, the metal part becomes more important. Knowing what to expect and where to be become more critical.

In the end a lot depends a lot on what competition level you were playing at 14U and what you'll be facing at 16U.

Best of luck and enjoy the ride!

agree with the above views. something else to consider is the fact that many, many girls stop playing ball after aging out at 14u. the players left are the ones trying to focus on the next level as they leave the "for fun" players behind.

seven or eight years ago, we started looking for an answer to the question of how we went from 250+ 14u teams in nc/sc to 150+ 16u teams in nc/sc. this had to be the answer.....we think.....

Most 16yo are playing 18u. 16u is likely mostly 14yo.
