Shanita Black, Outfielder, Georgia Southern. Finished her senior year with an impressive .408 batting average. Another great North Carolina talent.

Joined WCU's Ashley Adams and Mendy McKenzie as SoCon's only three members of the NFCA Southeastern All-region Softball Team.

    More Observations on Hitting Series

Noticed at the end of Amanda Freed's stroke, her feet are closed. And the baseball player's feet are opened, facing the pitcher.Amanda is using a back-hand stroke, the way a tennis player does a back-hand in tennis. The hip movement is backwards into the ball. Its the opposite with the opened foot.

The movement of the red dot shows that the timing motion is a slightly negative motion. There is also a negative motion with the front foot.In a hitting stance, the weight can be evenly distributed (50/50), about (70/30), or about (90/10) with most of the weight on the back leg.In the timing motion, almost all, or all of the weight shifts to the back leg. There are some techniques where the ball of the front foot or toe stays in contact with the ground, and you come down with force on the heel. In the hitting series they all seem to be using about a (70/30) distribution.

I have only one ???....How many college pitchers can throw 70 mph???
On the average top N would be between 63-65 mph....Jenny Fench on her good day probably only throws 72 mph....and most college coaches don't even promote speed but movement of the ball....Agreed on one thing 62-65 rise ball is almost impossible to hit, but a good hitter has disciplined herself to lay off that pitch...I just wanted to clear up 70 mph comment....your swinging instructions sounds good....GURU
