Having known him for a few years and there is none better. I have heard him tell the boys more than once. Always do your best, grades, ball, just walking down the street you never know who is looking. I can list more than a hand full of players that he has coached that are now playing for such teams as the Dirtbags, South Charlotte Panters, The Heat and many of the high school programs around W-S, G-boro and local towns. He knows the price of showcase and the difficultiles to get in to many of them. One of the best.:51::51::51::51::51:

Agree. I go back to why we don't get together and work out a solution to better promote High School Baseball. It seems that the forces at play here are the differances in the programs across the state as a whole. You have the state games but that is more about getting twenty or so players out of a few regions to play. There are no good solid summer or fall programs attached to HS that promote players. Your turn Braves.:08:

Thanks for the shout out. I have always meant well and tried to emphasize the important things in life. I worry about a lot of these kids and the roads they are taking by putting so much emphasis on baseball. OUCH! I felt that and heard the gasp! But very few will make a living playing baseball. I would like for someone with the time to put together a list of all these signed players for these big programs and see the % of who is still there after 4 years. It is a whole lot tougher than just playing the game. My daughter, who played 4 years used to say, put recruits on a bus for a week, schedule an exam on Friday. You can't go to class and the only time to study is under a map light while riding to the next game. Now keep those grades up!!

I have always tried to put like kids together and teach them a little. I think my strength has always been to find hidden talent out there. It has never been keeping them!! hahaha However, I am very proud of the boys (and girls) I have been blessed to coach. For the most part, as good as they are at baseball, they are much better people and for that I hope I had a small part. I am one of those "dads" who has coached over 20 years. My joys have come from the old guys coming by to visit with their kids. What great times reliving old teams and games.

If you are willing to pay him with the full understanding of what you are getting than help me understand what the problem would be.

    Braves was right.....

this topic has, like many others, has gotten away from my first post and what it was all about. Probably my fault as much as anyones.

Originally - I was wondering what others thought. My observations and thoughts were that HS sports (not just baseball), were becoming devaluized. Basically, not such a big deal to be a part of anymore.

Maybe a better way to stay on topic would be to ask this question more specifically to parents and players.

Do you feel that HS sports are losing thier luster or value? Which one of these holds more importance to you, HS sports (baseball - since thats what we all know best in this forum), or programs outside of HS?

Tough questions I know. Just looking for thoughts and reasons behind those thoughts.

Those with the power - feel free to move this thread or take it somewhere else if you think that would be better. (not that you needed my endorsment to do that)

Just asking a question Dawgwood. Personally I feel that if you pay for a product and get what you pay for, along with what you wanted out of it, who cares what somebody makes? Each consumer has to decide whether it's a good deal or not. I also have no problem with coaches/teachers making some additional money. When you look at the time they put in teaching and coaching they don't get paid enough. Could be the most underpaid profession IMO. And I have no problem with anyone that runs a showcase group making a profit no matter how big or small. If i don't get what I paid for then I don't have to buy it again.

Sounds like it's about time we put out a factual spread sheet on what some of the major showcase programs cost and what you get for your money. Get the facts on the table. By the way, if there's 500K to be made then I'm goping to start a team or two. Hire me some talented coaches and tell them to hit the showcase recruiting trail. ;)
