Just saw this on WRAL. Hopefully Softball will not be affected next season! Meeting takes place after football and during basketball season.

N.C. high schools looking to trim athletic budgets

A group of athletics directors from across North Carolina will meet Tuesday to determine how to cut costs at their schools in the struggling economy.

“Certainly people are looking at a reduction in total number of games,” says Bobby Guthrie, the athletics director for the Wake County Public School System. Guthrie is the man collecting the lists of money-saving ideas from his fellow athletics directors. After the meeting next week, they will present their best plans to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association this fall.

It is going to get really rough out there with the economy...booster clubs and innovative fundraising will be really important now. I know at our hs the AD is looking to cut sports that are barely making it now (just enough players or not)...boys and girls soccer, golf, etc. Where has all that lottery money gone to help academics so there will be budget money left for Athletics...such a shame as Athletic does sooooo much for the kids...keeps some in school, provides education outside of the classroom (mental, phy and emotional)...promotes going to college, etc. a sad time for sure.

    Budget cuts

Funny you should mention the LIFESAVING LOTTERY. That is exactly why the people who voted for the Lottery should have done some research before marking YES. The LOTTERY Money the State has made, simply replaces the money budgeted, it is not in addition to the monies budgeted , it just sends that pot somewhere else.
