    does anyone know how many teams from nc have played in the world series?

    ... just played? You would be looking for the list of NC teams who have went on to win a SE Regionals. Have you looked on the national website for this, they have a good bit. Looking at their list going back to 1983, NC has Cherryville(2003,1998), Rowan County(2009,1996) and Hamlet(1983). NC has others going back further, heres the complete list:
