I can't see how Ackley and Howell weren't on that team. Per Impact site, Ackley had these stats: .498/8/38 and Howell 8-1,1.11 ERA. Could it be that those guys were POYs and not listed on the all-state taem?

Now that you mention it, i think Howell was POY.... that could be why....

    POY

Its my understanding the POY'S are supposed to be All State automatically because they were selected POY in there conference. Someone correct me if Im wrong but I dont think I am. If this is indeed the case someone made an error. Either way both deserve to be All State no doubt about it.

I'm not criticizing the choices, but it is something that the first HS player in NC selected in the draft was not All State...Ryan Morris.

I realize stats play a big part, but often times they are skewed by weak opponents whereas some players like Morris, who always pitches the big games, may not have the best W-L record, but that record doesn't always speak about one's performance.

It happens every year. You cheer for the one's that did make it and you wonder why others didn't. But in the short or long one, you don't need to be an All State to validate one's career. Your memories and the players that you influenced will go much further when you reflect on your HS days.:twocents:

The one that I happy for the most is Brandon Reeves. I'm glad to see that he received the recognition that he deserved:trophy:

    Braves I agree

They could have used my son againist lesser teams and uped his won- loss alot but he got all the top teams, which will help him next year. Congts. to all that did make it, and Ryan should have been on that team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:twocents: :banginghe

    ?

I am not going to make negative comments, I promise, but there are some head scratchers. Justin Poovey was South Caldwell's 4th pitcher--he threw like 38 innings all year and never picked up a bat, and he's an underclassman. He is a STUD who throws gas and is certainly an all-state caliber talent, but how he gets picked over Howell, the conference POY whose team beat out South for the conference title, who has better numbers on the mound, also helped his team with the stick, and is a senior--well it beats the hell out of me.

    All State

I am sure all the selections are worthy, but it seems that every player played on playoff teams. Is it all state players who were fortunate to play on good teams, because i am sure there are players who were worthy of being selected, but played on teams that were not talented enough to make the playoffs.

One criteria for all-state is coach's nomination. There are other considerations and there are many deserving candidates.

I have nothing against this player, however, there is no way Alex Shelton is on that list and Thomas Newsome isn't (2A). It's still completely bullcrap that Shelton was North State player of the year over Newsome. Newsome was 2-0 against Shelton's team (beat Shelton head to head) and had a much better record than Shelton. Newsome was 13-1 on the year and the only game he lost was in the playoffs.
