YEAH!! :applause: our girls FINALLY made the rankings! I know the rankings don't mean anything since you have to win it on the floor, but it's good to see them get some recognition for the good year they are having so far. Just hope they don't let it go to their heads. Freedom might have something for them on Friday if they aren't careful! Should be a great game, and a good test to see if they are still focused!

    state rankings

I think the latest state rankings show a lot of respect for the McDowell Lady Titans basketball program. Although they were soundly defeated by the LADY ROCKETS they are still ranked well above them in the poll. I know that has to smart if you are a Reynolds fan but they don't just look at 1 game when they rank a team. I guess they look at how bad McDowell beat Freedom on their home turf as compared to how close the Freedom-Reynolds game was at Freedom. Also I believe the lady rockets have more tallent and experence to work with than the young lady titans especally on the posts. But coach silvers has a way of being succesfull with a team with any amount of tallent he has to work with. Does any one know what games will be played tonight,Wendsday?

nice thoughts... but i really don't think that most voters have seen either team play.... i don't think they know who has more talent... it is just a matter of respect for the program and the coach... consistency year in and year out for coach silvers... most of the voters really couldn't have seen either team perform this year... i wonder if they knew that the other team that beat mcdowell was a 2a team, and that reynolds beat that 2a team??? not saying that mcdowell doesn't deserve their rank, but part of their positioning has to do with their program and name... but don't all rankings take that into account... even on the college level... really anywhere that head to head competition is unavailable...

honestly, i wonder how we (nw4a) compares to the other teams ranked?? i mean, should freedom be up there too?? they haven't consistently got the job done this season, but i would put them up against anybody in the state with confidence that they could compete, and compete well... when they play together, they are so tough...

I Agree with ya'll about McDowell being ranking on their program and name, and to be honest they are a very good team and I would still rank them up among the top 3 in the state. I would also have ACR up in higher like around 6th (our only losses were to #1 Asheville twice and #1 Thomasville), and Freedom should be in the top 10 as well. Didn't Freedom dominate #10 East Forsyth already this year? They are a very good team as well. Our conference is good and I think the playoff will prove that before it's all said and done!

This poll in the past has been biased toward the East Region, but it seems that this year there is fair respresentation of the West Region too.

    _____________________________________________________

I think overall the NW4A matches up well with the other teams from the west that are in the poll. Freedom played East Forsyth at East Forsyth, and held Duke signee Chante Black to only 8 points. Freedom won by double digits. From what I have seen the last couple season, Chante is their only legit threat. A team effort will offset her production.

West Charlotte is all about playing streetball. Kisha Granberry and Ashley Rivens are nationally ranked players, Kisha in the top 15. McDowell played them in the sectional finals last year in Marion and held Granberry under 20 points, which she averages over 20 per game. The key to beating WC is not to get caught up in WC's style of play.

Garinger is a team that plays well in an overall weak conference. South Meck will be their toughest competition. If Garinger was ever to play the top three from the NW4A, they would get beat soundly.

And that leads to South Meck. If there is a team right now that scares me it would be South Meck. They have multiple 6 foot tall players who can play well. And they play more of a team concept than anybody else down in Charlotte. As a McDowell fan, the height of South Meck worries me, mainly because our two losses come from teams that have tall players.

Thanks for the rundown of the Charlotte teams Bigdan. I wasn't sure how good any of them were, but I had heard the South Meck team was the best of the bunch. I had also heard Garinger played in a weak conference, but I really didn't know if they were any good.

I was looking at the Charlotte paper website and in the SW4A, South Meck was still undefeated, 8-0, at the time. Garinger and Butler was tied for 2nd, with one loss in the conference. The 4th place team was 4-5. So, yeah the SW4A has a significant dropoff from 1-4.
