I know that some of the kids on the East/West that got selected turned it down. Now some might have done this to give other players an opportunity to play in front of scouts that might not have made a choice on college or something like that.

Just a question. How many are on a showcase team? And how do the other regions fair with that same question. I guess the same could be said about the seniors.

Region 8 selections this year were, well let's just say, unusual.

    One for the ages...

    Region 5 - 1
    Region 3 - 0

Wow! What a game. Both teams battled fiercely late into the night as goose eggs lit up the scoreboard for 10 straight innings. Both teams had mutiple scoring chances but were all snuffed out by stellar defensive plays or great pitching efforts. Finally, Zack Briggs of Region 5 singled home the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the tenth.
Tyler Joyner was impressive for Region 3 as the '09 lefty lit up the radar guns with an upper 80's fastball and sic slider. Pratt Maynard battled through the middle innings as did Dylan Kipp who pitched excellent as well. Region 5 continued to rotate a different pitcher every inning but the strategy has paid off so far.
Hate that anybody had to lose this one. Definately one for the books.

    Day two summaries

In game one, Region 7 wins a close one over Region 1, 3-2.
In the 5th inning with Region 1 tailing 2-1, Marc Felton (First Flight) hit a double to drive home Cameron Rollins (North Pitt) to tie the score at 2. In the bottom half of the 5th, Region 7 broke the tie with a RBI single by Ethan Ford (Alexander Central), which ended up being the winning run.
In game two, Region 2 edges Region 4, 4-3.
Region 4 was the first to score in the 3rd with back to back hits that led to 2 runs. Region 2 answered in the top half of the 4th with 3 runs on back to back doubles and a triple. Region 4 would tie it up on a RBI single by Manny Beltran (South View). With a tie ballgame in the 7th inning, Braxton Lewis (South Lenoir) would blast the game winning home run to lead Region 2 to victory.
In game three, Region 6 takes out Region 8, 7-2.
Region 6 started off the scoring with a 2nd inning home run by Richie Shaffer (Providence). Region 6 continued to pour on the runs in the third inning with four runs on three hits. Region 6 added two more runs on three hits in the fourth inning. Region 8 scored their only two runs in the fifth inning with a single by Matt Overbey (AC Reynolds) that scored one and a passed ball that scored the other.
In game four, Region 5 wins in extra innings over Region 3, 1-0.
This game was dominated by pitching with no runs being scored through nine innings of play. Region 5 sent out seven pitchers to hold Region 3 to no runs through ten innings. In the bottom of the tenth, Region 5 sent up Zack Briggs (Central Davidson) to the plate with a man on third and two outs in hopes he could deliver a hit and end this marathon. Briggs delivered with a line drive single that plated the runner at third and won the game for Region 5.
