Seems like Billy Jones did a good job in the fall. I know there were several top knotch kids, but Jeff Bianchi/Most Valuable Player is going to be one of the Freshman starting next year.

I also like the Sinnans (sp) kid, who played fall ball with Impact Baseball.

Both are middle infielders and both play very well. I know there is a big chance Bianchi will get drafted. How about Sinnans (sp)?

    Hi Al:

His name is Jeremy Synan and he's going to be something special. Plays HS at NW Guilford. He's going to quickly move into PG's top-500 this spring. He can definitely play SS at the college level. NC State's going to love his bat also.

I haven't seen Biannchi play so I can't comment on him.

To me, Jeremy is a mid-late, first day kind of player. He's got all of the tools, and is going to be a special hitter.

The two slickest fielding up-the-middle guys are probably Matt Holt, Green Hope (headed to UNC-W) and Greg Miclat, JM Robinson (headed to Virginia). These two could play for any college in the nation. Miclat needs college seasoning for his bat. Holt could get some looks right now. Matt has pro size potential at SS (just skinny now). I REALLY like Holt. Both Holt and Miclat will make unbelievable plays for you at times. Miclat plays like he was born at SS.

Synan may not be an up-the-middle guy after college, but he's got the bat to move to another position. He's got decent size and swinging the lefty stick won't hurt either. Very bright future. To me he's the #2 position player in the state (behind Maybin). As far as projectability goes, he's about #3.

Possibly the best hitter of the 4 top shortstops in the state is Garrett Gore. Gore also has a rocket plus-plus arm, but I would take any of the other 3 defensively at SS. Gore could move to 3B, he's got the arm for the long throw from behind the bag and he hits as well as any infielder in the state, but his size is more 2B at the pro level. At college, he could play any position in the IF.

We'll have to see how strong Jeremy's college commitment is. If he's willing, they will come knocking on his door in June. If he won't go pro unless he's a top-100 selection, then we'll probably see him at NC State.

All of this is just MY WILD GUESSES and opinions.

...I think you are pretty close, Pops...but I have seen all those kids play and my son has had all 4 players on his team at one time or another. I asked him who he liked behind him when he is pitching and he didn't bat an eye.......Jeremy Synan.

There is not any reason Jeremy would need to switch positions. The kid is a monster offensively and defensively....and a plus for the ML scouts is he already has a pro body and he is getting stronger...the kid already lifts 315+ and runs a 4.5 40...and an added bonus..he's a leader on and off the field.

Just personal preference ... on a pro level, I'd like him at 3rd.

:D :D I know you'll disagree with my attempt at being a G.M. in the Bigs...I guess I should go back and read "Money Ball" again, but after what the Angels did this past week, I think they've made all the money they are going to off of that book.

You mean the A's? Let's see, there are now three teams with confirmed Moneyball disciples in the general manager slots: the A's (Beene), the Dodgers (DePodesta), and the Red Sox (Epstein). I'd say they did pretty well in 2004 as a group. Stoneman likes to sound like a Moneyball guy sometimes, but he doesn't generally act like one come draft time.

Unless you're going broke (Montreal) or stuck in neutral (the Braves ever since they got put on an actual hard budget) you are going to HAVE TO SPEND BUCKS on pitching and I really don't care what money ball has to say about it. Of course, the Braves have come equiped with a magic wand that seems to fix theirs every year just when it appears disaster looms.

Offense wins lots of games, a great defense will make you a contender but Championships come on the mound. Without a solid staff and bullpen, you don't have a chance.

Hate for my first post to be controversial, but in my opinion Synans is a corner (5) guy and definitely has a pro body/ bat. A great player as is Miclat. Miclat might have been born to play short but dont be suprised if you see him in the 8 spot in college when he grows up.

Hapi2BMe: "Happy" to have you on board.

I like Jeremy at 3rd also on the pro level. But I agree with Braves ... he can play short !!!! (We may be in the minority, but that doesn't matter).

Not sure about Miclat in CF. He's got the speed, but CF instincts take awhile to really develop. I'm not sure if he's played out there enough to make that determination.

When you look at Virginia's line up, you know he might have to move somewhere. More likely would be a move to 2nd in college. You can never tell which player a coach will start moving around.

It's all guesswork on our part though.
