    what an unfortunate situation

    USC-UVa.
first 3 innings the Cavs' A-A pitcher Danny Hultzen completely stifles the Cocks; gives up just 1 hit and strikes out 8 batters and UVa. has 1-0 lead after 3 innings.
Then Hultzen apparently becomes very weak from some type of sickness? and is removed from the game. Another lefthander relieves and USC is now ahead 2-1 after 5 innings.

"And that was it, But i thought it was catching/framing that made the difference. Does that make sense. "

Agree - seems like too many catchers work too much on throw down times and not as much on receiving or calling the game. They try to funnel every pitch in lieu of framing the pitch and as you say catching it "quietly". When you hear people in the stands or dugout yelling "Call it both ways Blue" - most times I see a catcher who knows how to receive and another who does not.

Once heard a minor league instructor complaining about the number of catchers coming into the system who did not know how to receive. He said if they would work on receiving more maybe they would not have to be as concerned with their throw down times.

    the Gamecocks' playoffs catcher

Robert Beary has impressed me as a part-time catcher. Looks like a natural behind the dish. He has mostly played in the outfield.
