NCAA softball still dominated by regions

Many of the kids I see are still trying to squish the bug, spin, hit from a dead stop, no coil, no separation, no tilt, etc.

When you try to get them to do some of the things that would help, other coaches think you're off in the head. Some kids are told to just say ok and swing like you're used to.

It's coming—but slowly. Teams like Florida will make people think about it.

If you think you know it already you can't learn it.

I noticed that 7 or 8 of Fla.'s starting lineup was from Calif.

 

Think long history of the game in Cali plus the . . . .

fact that there are 37 million people in that state. That results in a lot of kids playing softball.

 

There were six from California on Florida's roster and One from Oregon on Alabama's group. Things are changing. I recently watched an interview from the retiring coach at LSU. She talked about how amazing it was that the SEC in the period of time since that started fastpitch had got this good.

I do agree with some of the teaching methods that are still taught on the east coastbeing a problem. Good quality coaching is one of the biggest holdups for softball to move forward.

thinking long history in cali plus a lot of softball kids. now, once they have graduated from florida or tennessee or sec or acc schools on east coast, do they stay and teach pitching/hitting or move back to cali?

are there 37 million people in charlotte and raleigh combined? that is a good point. from the olympic perspective, china would be a kind of california - population wise.

what about new york? what is ny's population?

 

Don't forget the climate factor when you consider China, New York populations.

 

Good info on the population of California and according to the 2010 census had a growth of 9 percent while NC
with 9 million had a growth of 15 percent.. BTW the aprox population of NC, SC , GA, FLA and ALA is 44 million...

Guys there are good reasons why Florida ,Georgia and Ala coaches go after those west coast girls and its not
because they have a few extra to spare ..
As I have alluded to in an earlier post the skills of those girls especially with regard to hitting is unequal to what
what is taught and what you will see in most of these east coast girls ..

You don't have to go national as an example of regional dominance. Regional dominance is in play at all levels. Look at North Carolina High School softball as an example. It has to do with committment!

It is the result of a dedicated group of poeple that make a long term commitment to success. Money helps but it is much greater than that!

 

It has a lot to do with population DENSITY. That density of population and talent pool that comes with it drives teh money, the coaching improvements, etc... a single good coach and their radius of influence can reach 20 times the kids than a good coach can here. There are always concentrated areas of skills...
