50% of teams left in the East are Numero Uno's

    Final Four from the East
East 4A...Laney, Rose, Apex, Lee (No #1 seed left)
    East 3A...Hunt, E Wayne, Chapel Hill, W Alamance (3 of 4 are #1 seeds)
    East 2A...Farmville, Croatan, Graham, Fairmont (1 of 4 is a #1 seed)

11 of the 16 teams left in the West are #1 seeds.

SoutherNo1, I honestly don't know how they group the conferences, but yes I would imagine they "try" to do it geographically. Its just my opinion that 4A and 1A conferences seem to travel more because there are so few of them and far between. Lake Norman (this year) traveling to Tuscola first round best example.

Although when my sons were playing, it seems like we played Ragsdale every year in first round and we were 3A, so shoot that theory out the window...

Its a crapshoot (like you said earlier) your going to have to play the best teams sooner or later anyway.

Its the same thing they do for basketball, soccer and pretty much every other team sport. It was they way they did football too before they split the classes and added so many teams they decided they needed to seed them.

Not saying it's right but it's not just baseball that deals with it. I reckon if the coaches don't like the current arangement they need to lobby for seeding.

Next year things will be different with the state being divided into 4 regions instead of 2 which will cut down on the travel. It will be tougher to see the 2 best teams play for the regional championships now IMO. Again it will just come down to see which region has reloaded and which region has declined.
