I know you will, but do let us know how the kids take to sliding into bases on the artificial turfgrass.

    First game played Tuesday

ASU played it's first home game in their new stadium Tuesday. Gardner-Webb was the opposing team, and they did the noble thing and allowed ASU to win the inaugural game, 6-1.

Here's a link to some pictures from the game.

All in all, everyone seemed very happy with playability of the artificial surface. No bad hops. Players were sliding and diving on it just like they do on dirt and grass. The sand and rubber granuales do kick up when the ball bounces on the field or when players slide, but that didn't seem to cause any problems.

Obviously since construction has not even started on the stands and the press box it's not exactly a pleasant place to watch a game. But nobody was complaining.
