The Southern Collegiate Baseball League (SCBL.org) has added a team in Pineville. The Pineville Pioneers will play all of their home games at the beautiful new Jack Hughes Park right in the heart of Pineville. The SCBL is part of the National Alliance of Summer College Baseball (NASCB.org). The NASCB includes the SCBL, The Cape, The Valley League and more and is funded in part by Major League Baseball.

This is going to be a tremendous opportunity for the local Charlotte kids who move on to play at the next level to have a chance to come back, if they choose and play their summer ball locally. Already there are several kids from the local area excited to come back this summer and join the Pioneers. In addition to the local players, this year the roster has players from MD, OH, TN and VA. These players are excited about the opportunity to come south and play in the heat of the NC summer.

A primary goal of the team is to really get the community involved to create an atmosphere that becomes a thrill for both players and the fans. Bringing back players who had tremendous local High School careers and have gone on to have an impact on their College teams will help create that sense of community.

The ownership group and field staff will be made up of qualified baseball people who understand pitch counts, rehab assignments, playing time and AB’s. Summer ball is about getting reps and getting better.

Terry Brewer is going to manage the team. Many of you know Brew and know he has an extensive baseball history; 21 years as a high school coach and 16 years as an MLB Scout (Baltimore and Tampa Bay).

Is the roster for this team already full? If no do you take juco players and who do you contact?

I know they are looking for pitchers and yes, they can take JUCO players since Terry Brewer is not a college coach.

This is a thrilling and envious addition to an already talent growing league. I'm envious because this is the team that I dreamed to have. Their future has no limits in success.

By the way, Terry Brewer is considered by many, as the best hitting instructor in our state...and a better man. They don't make them any finer!

I wish people realize how important this new franchise is to the continued growth of the SCBL.

First, it is a strong ownership with tremendous baseball resources. The players have the opportunity to be surrounded with all the experience CBC employs and has access to their facility.

Second, Pineville is one of the few communities that will support summer college baseball in Charlotte. It has a strong corporate support for sponsorship, active amateur baseball programs and a community that takes pride in their teams. Think of it as a small community located in a much larger one.

Third, one of the best ways to build support is with hometown players. Pineville is uniquely positioned to acquire much of that talent.

Fourth, as a league it benefits by having teams located closer. It provides natural rivalries, saves tremendous transportation costs and those savings passed on to the players or improving facilities. Instead of having to drive to the Outer Banks or to Jefferson City, Tenn, now they can, at times, drive cross town to play.

The league continues to explore other potential strong markets, while evaluating areas that need improvement. It is my opinion that the SCBL will soon become a destination that many players hope they can be a part of. Given NC has more universities and colleges than most states and the talent rankings list our players in the top 3 across the country...the SCBL has just created another strong opportunity for our players in this state.

And what a beautiful ball park to play in. I can't wait to eat a hotdog, sip on a cold coke, and watch a baseball game on a warm summer night!

It has been amazing to see the growth of this league over the past four years. The addition of Pineville, Statesville (last year), new Spartanburg ownership, and John Spencer taking over for Fort Mill will only continue to strengthen this league. If you are a true baseball fan, you owe it to yourself to get out and see some of these games this summer. Since these guys are living together, hanging out together, and on the road together all summer, they form instant bonds and will run through brick walls for each other. They don't look at it like "oh, its just summer ball." The intensity and fire you will see in these games is exciting and will keep you coming back for more. Go to www.scbl.org, check out the schedule and make it a point to get out and see some of these guys play this summer.

I may need to get a few more bats before Pineville plays Huntersville. I'm afraid IF things don't go your way, you'll cut me off! lol

Congrats on the baby, hope you're doing well!
