will the 49ers fit better in the Big South or Southern Conference?

seems like football is a newer adventure in the Big South.

If given the chance I would select the Southern Conference. A long history with, imo, stronger athletic programs. Also, the distances between member schools would be closer and I believe with many schools located in the NC region, you would find better rivalries.

Part of the problem with the 49er's now is most people, outside of the program, could not name 3 schools in their current conference. It's tough to get excited playing Fordham, Colgate, etc. Not to take anything away from those fine schools.....but they ain't in the south...and they ain't nearby. In fact, I'd say the casual fan could not tell you what conference the 49er's are in.

The Southern Conference does not want to commit to Charlotte for football only -- which is what Charlotte wants. They are also afraid that Charlotte would bolt once they get their football program up and running. The Big South feels the same way. Keep an eye on the 49ers rejoining Conference USA at some point -- which just happens to be one of the nation's top baseball leagues. The bottom line is this -- as long as Judy Rose (UNCC AD) continues to think of Charlotte as a basketball school first -- the 49ers will continue to struggle finding the perfect fit. If you've noticed, their baseball and soccer programs are legitimate national progams with soccer playing in the Elite 8 this weekend. The basketball program has been on a steady decline ever since they joined the Atlantic 10 and they will never be a factor in this basketball-crazed state. The decision should be made with football, baseball, and soccer (even though I hate soccer) in mind -- not basketball!!!

Good points! CUSA is good, but with the big conferences continued aggressive raid of other conferences---who knows what teams will be left in CUSA.
