New Legion Team In W. Forsyth Co.?

Meaning parents............................unfortunately.

 

Braves...you are exactly right. Change can be difficult, but if done for the right reasons it ususally benefits all involved.

Legion ball, in my opinion is next to hs football in helping to unite and put spirit into a community.

 

THERE WAS A MEETING LAST NIGHT IN MOCKSVILLE WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO ARE INVOLVED WITH DAVIE CO. LEGION. THERE WAS ALSO A COUPLE OF PEOPLE THERE WHO ARE ON THE STATE LEGION BOARD. HAD A CALL AFTER THE MEETING LAST NIGHT AND WEST FORSYTH DOEN NOT HAVE A TEAM. THE STATE HAS NOT YET APPROVED THEM AND IF A NEW TEAM DOES COME TO FORSYTH COUNTY THE HOME SCHOOL WILL BE MT. TABOR, NOT WEST FORSYTH. THERE WERE ALSO SOME PARENTS OF WEST FORSYTH PLAYERS THERE WHO WANTS THERE SON TO PLAY FOR DAVIE. WHERE THE STATE MESSED UP WAS LITTLE YADKIN CO. HAVE THEIR OWN TEAM LAST YEAR. AND FROM WHAT I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A YADKIN CO. PARENT AT LAST NIGHTS MEETING WHO WANTS HIS CHILD TO PLAY AT MOCKSVILLE, YADKIN MAY NOT EVEN HAVE THE FUNDS TO HAVE A TEAM THIS YEAR. IF W. FORSYTH GETS A TEAM AND YADKIN STILL HAS ATEAM, MOCKSVILLE CAN NOT DRAW FROM ANYONE. I THINK THAT IS AWFUL BECAUSE MOCKSVILLE DOES NOT HAVE A STRONG ENOUGH PROGRAM TO COMPETE WITH OTHER LEGION TEAMS. IT WILL BE JUST LIKE PLAYING WITH THE SAME HIGH SCHOOL TEAM AND THE KIDS WANT HAVE ANYTHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO. MY SON HAS PLAYED BALL IN MOCKSVILLE SINCE HE WAS THREE YEARS OLD AND I WOULD HATE FOR HIM TO HAVE TO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE TO PLAY BECAUSE W. FORSYTH MESSED UP OUR WHOLE LEGION PROGRAM.

 

I think that what you were told was just wishful thinking by a few disgruntled people. However, I was told by the post commanders from Lewisville and Mocksville the new team HAS been approved and will play at West Forsyth. The joining fee was paid and also the insurance has been purhased through the American legion office in Raleigh. Also, the state commander for American Legion said that no post that wants a team can be denied a team.

As for Mocksville not having the talent to field a competitive team, I have to disagree with you there also. I have played ball (many years ago) and have watched ball in Mocksville since and I am confident we can put a good team on the field. There are some really good players around and now they will have more of an opportunity.

 

THE PERSON I TALKED TO WAS AT THE MEETING. I NEVER SAID THEY WERE NOT GETTING A TEAM, THE TEAM HAS NOT BEEN APPROVED YET. EVIDENTLY SOMEONE MISINFORMED YOU. MY SON IS A PLAYER FOR DAVIE HIGH SCHOOL HAS PLAYED VARSITY BALL SINCE HE WAS A FRESHMAN. I KNOW THERE IS TALENT IN DAVIE COUNTY SOMETIMES THE TALENT IS NOT USED LIKE IT NEEDS TO BE. I THINK THIS COMING YEAR AND THE NEXT WILL BE GOOD YEARS FOR DAVIE HIGH SCHOOL. THERE ARE SOME VERY TALENTED KIDS THAT WILL BE PLAYING. I BELIEVE THERE WILL ONLY BE ONE(POSSIBLY TWO) SENIORS WHO WILL START FOR DAVIE THE REST WILL BE JUNIORS AND SOPHOMORES. THIS A GREAT GROUP OF BOYS WHO ENJOY PLAYING TOGETHER SO MAYBE THEY CAN MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN THIS YEAR.

Just got off the phone with Bob Beeson, the area 3 Legion director, and he also confirmed the Western Forsyth team has been approved. Looks like some people need to get on the same page doesn't it?

 

homer 3 you have yet to answer the question of what you would do if you were the commisioner, How can you say Mocksville. yadkin, or West forsyth can field competitive teams, also winston-Salem will be effected by this, You must have not watched many legion games recently and seen how strong most of these teams are. I think you must have a son that plays for Davie and you would like for him to be on the legion team at Mocksville you just don't want him to compete for a position with the yadkin nd forsyth players, that is why you like the views of some of the West Forsyth parents. Mocksville has been very strong for 25 years with several players playing college baseball and profesional. it is ashame that a few parents that did not get there way can destroy a good program at the expense of volunteers and good players, also don't forget that Mocksville is the only program in the state that sponsors a fall baseball league for the kids to play will West forsyth bring something to the table in the fall
