i think they should just let all the teams in the playoffs... that way everyone that has played can tell their kids that they made it to the NC State play-offs..

    :imagestor :agreed: :umno:

i agree with what you guys are saying, but what about the team that has 18-19 wins but doesn't make it because their conference only has 2 playoff spots?? has happened a few times in the cpc and i know a couple of years ago a few of the meck schools where siting at home with 19-20 wins. :1peekdoor

I think they're taking care of that with how they have it now. Each conference gets two bids no matter how big the conference is, and then those other teams that are just outside of 2nd place in their conferences get the other playoff bids.

    playoffs

Unless Ive gone crazy and that could very well be the case , I read the other day in the paper that the 64 team playoff was added in baseball. If this is indeed the case I do not agree as earlier stated. As far as the really good teams in tough conferences that just miss out I thought that was what the wild cards were supposed to be for? There is no doubt that some third place teams in very good conferences are as good or better than some one seeds in weaker conferences. Letting everyone in is pretty much what you have with the 64 getting in.

It sounds a lot like football to me...

I think that the playoffs are for deserving teams. It should mean something to get into the playoffs, not just an extra game or 2. Before our conference expanded, 4 out of 5 teams made the state playoffs in football, but we all know that football is all about money ($). I have absolutely no problem with that, you do what you must, but nobody wants to do the work of power rankings to get teams in, so we have to go to something easy like letting them all in... IMHO

Coach 27, what would be worse, for a deserving team not to get in or for a few undeserving ones to get in? I guess our team is on the outside looking in right now despite a 8-4 conference record. We would have definitely qualified the last two years with that record but will not this year unless we win our tourney.

    Playoffs

When I played in HS the only teams that got in were the conference champion. Baseball and Football were both like that. We went 9-1 one year in football but we were 5-1 in conf play and lost to the team that won the conference which was 6-0 in conf and 7-3 overall. But we knew going in that we had to win the conference to make the playoffs. If your conf gets only 2 bids then you know that going in. You know what you have to do to make the playoffs. It makes for exciting baseball games. It puts something on the line everytime you step on the field. What is the regular season going to mean when it doesnt matter? Who cares about the big conference match ups when everyone in the park already knows that THEY ALL ARE GOING TO THE PlAYOFFS anyway? OF course as players and coaches you should approach every game like its for a championship. But no one can tell me that the atmosphere is the same in a non conf game vs a conf match up with playoff implications on the line. I guess Im beating a dead horse but to me you play the regular season in an attempt to earn something. Not have it given to you regardless of how you have played during the year. If you have to finish in the top two to make the playoffs then you either do it or you dont. Under this format it doesnt matter because basically everyone is already in before the first pitch is thrown.

A few years ago, both South Meck and East Meck were 20-5 and sitting at home. But, I'm with the guys that feel regular season games should mean something

    64 Teams...

Not really in favor of it, but if that is what's going to happen then so be it, you still have to play the game.

Here is another question: Is the format going to be the same as in football with 64 teams, crowning 2 state champs in each classification? Example: 4A classification split into 32 teams in 4A-A and 32 teams in 4A-AA...
