    Aren't these fun!!!!

I follow 4A a little more closely than 3A and am wondering about 2 teams.

    Havlock
Havelock is 6-0 down east. They are in the same conference as JH Rose and DH Conley. Rose is currently 7-1 and ranked #5), DH Conley was ranked pre-season in the top 50 in the nation, but have dropped back after two early season losses.

Anyone know anything more about this program? Have they played anyone tough yet? details..details..

    The 4A Big East Conference:
Conley, D. H., Havelock, New Bern, Northern Nash, Rocky Mount, Rose, J. H.

    South View
After an 11-0 start, you might start wondering why they aren't getting as much press. They are in the 4A Two Rivers conference down east. Has all of their pre-conference games been again weak 2A and 3A schools? Anyone know any details about this team? How strong is the Two Rivers conference this year? Here are the conference members:

Cape Fear, Lumberton, Pine Forest, Smith, E. E., South View, Swett, Purnell, Terry Sanford

Trusting the powers that be to have intentionally overlooked these two schools, the rest of the list looks pretty good with the following notes:

Garner may have 3 losses already and be nearer to a .500 record. We know they have the pitching but may be struggling to score runs. Until they get the bats going, #3 is way too high. I'd slide them down to 9th-10th and everyone else up a notch.

South Caldwell & McDowell I'd flip-flop those two, but that question should be answered this week. SC may be deeper on the bump.

Richmond County No one is saying much about this team. I'd like to have more information. I can't form an opinion yet.

SW4A As we said at the beginning of the season, these teams are going to spend all year beating each other up. Come playoff time, they should all be ready, even if none of them are ranked very high because of the # of losses.

Other than those observations, the list looks very accurate.

    Observations about 3A

With only playing 6 games in 5 weeks, I am still uncertain that Glenn can remain competitive without Marion on the mound.

NW Cabarrus (Regardless of the loss to Benton at Mount Pleasant) has proven that they can handle two tough games in a week. I'd slide Glenn down a few notches, and move NW into the top 10..... don't know who I'd remove....just make the list a top 11 and forget it!!!!!

Yeah, we had a thread about Ragsdale ... merged it in order to keep the board organized.

Ragsdale is for real. A highlight on a couple of their players.

Alex Sink, middle infield. The guy is very slick. Very fast, very agressive. He's a junior.

JK Whited, catcher. This guy is UNC-A bound. He compares very favorably to Murhpy up there at Tuscola. This guy is one of the best 2-3 senior catchers in the state.

Kunta Hicks, Sr. , P-IF. Strong arm, very athletic. Crushes a baseball. Not sure what position he will play at the next level, but he hits well enough already.

Wes Wrenn, RHP, Soph. Don't let the grade fool you. This guy can pitch! Great pop for a youngster.

Chad Baker, RHP. Another guy with very good pop. Throws strikes, will come right at you.

Whited runs the team, Sink is the heart of the team.

They can hurt you with their arms, bats, speed and defense....what else is left?????

Smithfield-Selma: If any of your guys went to state games last year, ask them about 3B Jay Cox. He's going to UNC along with Woodard & Bard. He's also a big part of the reason this year's signee's at UNC are so highly regarded. Haven't seen the team so we need someone to give us a report on these guys.

    Coaches Poll

The BCA/Baseball America Poll is out too. As usual, there are some differences ... it also answers a few questions that I had asked earlier on this thread (Havelock, South View)...

    Comparing the Two...
    Impact Baseball
    1. Fuquay-Varina, 6-0, (1)
    2. North Forsyth, 8-1 (10)
    3. Garner, 4-2, (4)
    4. Myers Park, 8-2 (7)
    5. JH Rose, 7-1, (3)
    6. McDowell, 8-1 (5)
    7. South Caldwell, 11-0 (NR)
    8. West Forsyth, 7-1 (NR)
    9. Richmond County, (8)
    10. South Mecklenburg, 6-3 (2)
Dropped Out: Green Hope, North Mecklenburg

    BCA/Baseball America Poll
    Team, Record, Pts.
    1. Fuquay-Varina, (1), 6-0, 100
    2. Rose, (2), 7-1, 84
    3. McDowell, (6), 9-1, 63
    4. South Caldwell, (NR), 11-0, 60
    5. Providence, (4), 7-2, 51
    6. South View, (10), 10-0, 49
    7. Riverside, (NR), 6-0, 40
    8. Hoggard, (7), 6-1, 28
    9. North Meck, (8) 9-2, 25
    10. Havelock HS, (NR), 8-0, 19

    D. H. Conley, Garner, Myers Park, North Forsyth, Richmond County, South Mecklenburg, West Forsyth

It's interesting to look at the different view on the SW4A race. It's based on the expectations of who will come out on top I believe. One favors MP, the other Providence with South Meck threatening. Garner's two losses are reflected as is their limited schedule of 6 games over 5 weeks. McDowell/South Caldwell are up where they belong (still not certain of the order).

This one introduces Riverside, which isn't even on our radar yet. Anyone have any information on their program?

The two Forsyth schools are all over the map and Green Hope has disappeared all together.

    Interesting.....
