    Editor please cover my game

I get the feeling that the sports writers don't like going to long baseball games as much as the other faster sports. Also there seems to be more scorekeepers and stats people and even better announcers at the other sports so the writers can get more info from these guys than having to do all the work themselves. Another factor is the Spring has many more sports to cover.

    Manpower?

I don't know. They sure have plenty of people covering ACC basketball. Where do alls these guys go after March? Sure not covering MLB or NBA. Heck, two years ago I inquired why the All Conf. team hadn't been reported. I was told someone needed to give them that info. My first thought was, isn't a reporters job to find things out? Anyway, I actually went to alot of effort to find out and give the info to him. He still didn't put it in the paper. I could go on and on. It's just sad really because prep baseball in NC is outstanding and these kids deserve better. Hey, two local kids have signed to play major D1 baseball and no one knows except people on TBR and close friends. I'm sure if a local basketball player signed with Duke or football with LSU it would be in the paper.

Didn't mean to hijack this thread.

Every year, we try to get guys out fom Wake Co. to play on our travel teams.. We can never seem to get any to come out. Usually they are fundamentally sound, with good baseball instincts. They play great competition day-in and day out. If any needs any love from here, just look at the new team forming thread and come on out. Currently, there are 2 from Wake Co.

I can garuntee you if Wake County was made of only 2 or 3 high schools instead of having a new one open up every other week, atleast one of those teams would be in the running for a state title. Responding to an earlier post, Yes the wake county area does have middle school baseball. As a matter of fact I played on a team where 12 of their 16 players went on to play varsity as a freshman in highschool. The only problem is NONE of them went to the same school. All of them are spread out among the cap 7, and some of them have already committed or signed to go play college baseball somewhere (i.e. Travis Smith-Chowan University, Mark Peterson- UNCG, Brian Yeung- Wingate)

    Raleigh Area Baseball

Last year I posted the results and leading stats for all Cap 7 games, non conference and conference on this board first thing in the morning. And I plan on doing the same this coming year also. I would then take this info and post it also on the Sanderson's High School Baseball web site. Along with the results I kept the conference standing up to date the best I could.

I noticed the web site hit rate grew really fast and did not know why until a parent from another team in the conference told me that everyone he knew was going to the Sanderson site to see the game results and conference standings, This was the only place in Raleigh you could see the Cap 7 standings. Not one time did the area paper ever post the conference standings for any schools in the Raleigh area. I know the paper does not have enough reporters to cover all the games but they could at least give an once a week update on the conferences. Hmmmmm, on the other hand just let everyone keep coming to the Sanderson High School Baseball Web Site.

Also last year the Cap 7 showed fans how good of a conference it was when it came to the state playoffs. The fourth seed out of the conference (Sanderson) beat 2 # 1 seeds in Smithfield Selma and Pinecrest along with Leesville just missing the state finals in a loss to Ashley. You will see the same out of the conference and the Raleigh area again this year. There are some really talented players here and I will try to give props to these players as the season gets started. And Jonathan it will be fun watching you pitch again this season for Broughton.

    Could"nt agree with you more,

Sanderson came to Smithfield-Selma and played a great ball game, brought a big crowd and showed a lot of class.I have no doubt
that they will be playoff bound again this year,I just hope that some other school draws them in the first round.Lots of great players in the triangle and I hope some attend the South Hurricanes prospect camp on Jan. 19th at Smithfield-Selma. Info at www.canesbaseball.net .
I will try to post updates this season from the Greater Neuse 4-A.

    Wow!!

This thread blew up bigtime!!! The original poster wanted to know why the Raleigh area schools did not get any love on this site. Who's responsibility is that? Could it be the people that follow this area of hs baseball? Can we expect the people from Charlotte for example to report on the Raleigh schools? The fans for Raleigh HS baseball and the surrounding area need to come on here and tell us all about the players and teams.

Im very familiar with the top players on the Raleigh area schools as well as Smithfield Selma , Fuquay Varina and Garner. But Im not up to speed on the supporting cast and the top newcomers. How about someone just posting the information for all to read? Corey Thompson , Apex , ECU - Cameron Conner, Fuquay , NC State , - Jeremy Dowdy , Wakefield , App State - Mac Williamson , Wake Forest Rolesville , Wake Forest - Etc Etc Etc. There are several top level players in the Raleigh area. But until the people in the know start posting how are we supposed to know all of them?

As far as Region 3 State Games - Lets save the state games bashing of coaches and players for later this year. We all know it will come back up again regardless of who the coach is. It happens in every region.

I think the talent level in this area has gone down and I also agree that the numerous high schools has diluted the HS teams. Travel ball is where you make your name anyway. HS is for friendship and the coaching in Raleigh area is horrible for the most part.
Best travel team in this area was 5 years ago when these kids were 12/13 years old. These kids went to Cooperstown and won a 48 team tourney and all have gone on to play college ball. All learned to play the game the way it was supposed to be played.
One team:( all from Raleigh:) Michael Rooney, UNCW, Michael Knox, UNC, Michael Caddell USC Sumpter, Brett Eibner, University of Arkansas, Logan Isaacs, Pitt County Community, Matt Zeblo: playing college ball in Charlotte area, Matt Brooks UNCC
Non Raleigh players: Richard Royal, USC, Seth Maness ECU

All got exposure and good coaching at an early age and all played at a top level when they were younger.
Played against Bumgarner, Patrick Johnson, Ben Bunting, Dustin Harrington, and the like in AAU ball so none are intimidated as they got older.
My point: There was a lot of talent the last 5 years but I do not see it anymore. The good travel teams that used to prepare these kids are not there now.
