Senior Brandon Reeves, he's 5-2 on the mound with a 2.32 ERA and he's batting well over .400 with 2 home runs and 22 RBI. Brandon is one of the most slept on players in the state and is probably going to be the Conference Player of the Year.

Senior Catcher Troy Lanham - Has maybe 4 past balls all year, hitting .350 with 20 RBI.

Junior Stephen Mullis and Soph. Ian Sidebottom. Mullis is hitting .465 with 26 hits, and 25 RBI's while Sidebottom is hitting around .430 with 24 RBI's and a 5-2 record on the mound with 2 saves.

- Junior Michael Vaughn of Hopewell HS in MECA-6 4A.
Hit .478 with a .928 slugging. Has 7 HRs, 8 2Bs, and 37 RBIs. Also has a 4-0 pitching record with a 1.91 ERA and has 4 saves.

- Senior Andy Oliver of Hopewell HS.
Hit .471 with 1 HR, 12 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. Has a 4-5 pitching record and a 3.68 ERA and has pitched in almost every "big" game against mostly "Sweet 16" teams for a 20-6 Hopewell team that just won the MECA-6 Tournament.

 

John McDaniel of Davie County is 10-1 with 1 save. He has pitched 66 2/3 innings, allowed 42 hits, allowed 9 runs 4 earned runs and only 5 base on balls, one was intentionally. struck out 62. Has an era of .47. John has pitched 6 complete game shutouts. He John has been a key cog for the 21-3 Wareagles and has been almost perfect.

Whit Merrifield is hitting .481 with 35 runs, 37 hit 21 RBI's, 5 2b, 3 3b's, 2 HR, and 21 for 21 on stolen bases. He has been outstanding in the field playing shortstop after starting at 2b the past 2 years for the Wareagles.

 

Junior Alex Hill- Vance High School-Mecca 6 Conference 4A
Finish , 558 Batting Average, 2 Homeruns- Stolen Bases-14/15, Walks-12 (6) intentional. Batted 475 last year as a Sophmore.

 

Last year NC Preps had about 80 players listed as all-state. I believe they should really get a bit more selective instead of watering the award down.

 

true..it will not happen this year...last year was 1st one...learned alot...LOL

 

Another vote for John McDaniel of Davie High's 21-3 team.

Those numbers are correct and outstanding. He is definately worthy of an All-State Nomination

Final Regular Season Stats: .403 BA, 21 RBI, 25 Runs, 6 2B's, 4 HR...on the mound; 5-1, 1 no-hitter, 2 shutouts, 1.11 ERA, 64 KO's


...I know Almond pitched a shutout in the Conference Tourney, and went 6-6 at the plate, so his numbers have changed a little. Also, Benton won the Tourney Championship game, and went 3-3 in that final game.
