    Reply to Super Jon

It's not that Johnson and Ackley didn't get drafted, they were considered
unsignable so they weren't drafted. Watch them for the next 3 years and see where they go. Should be interesting.

ditto for Kyle Seager.........UNC gave him a great deal, otherwise he would've gone in Round 4 or 5.

    Not Signing

"For some of these young men that didn't get drafted, if they were not selected in the Top 5 rounds....they weren't going. How could one turn down an opportunity to play ACC or SEC ball and receive a great education."

If a kid has to be selected in the top five rounds in order to sign, he either doesn't really want to play pro ball or he is afraid to give up the security blanket of "college life". If he's that good, any pro organization will pay for a "great education". Plus if he does sign, he will play with and against FAR better competition than he will find in the ACC or SEC.

    Great Deal

What was the "great deal" that UNC gave him?

I could not disagree with you more if you are referring to a HS player

any pro organization will agree to pay some portion of a college education to most anybody that signs and states they want that. But, very, very few HS signees take advantage of this. MLB baseball realizes that most kids that finally "hang up the spikes" are too old or have other priorities (like a wife and children) that keep them from returning to school.

I agree 100% with this....but the chances of him making it to "The Show" is very, very slim...then what? Most will have already spent any bonus money they received and the monies made in minor league ball is pathetic..$1,100 a month and this is a recent raise.

I would advise most HS kids that if you have an opportunity to get a college education....in the long run your future will be brighter. If you complete 3 years of college, get drafted, signed...and it doesn't work out. The chances of that person returning for their final year is much greater than the other scenario.

Slotted money for rounds greater than 5 is not terrific. Lets say you have an offer of $200,000. After taxes, attorney, new car and a mimimun $500 a month apartment lease....ain't much left for food..

Any player who "truly" values his education will use his college scholarship money from pro baseball to get it. Those who are serious get started while they in the minor leagues.
