I understand Coach Lowe will not be coaching the baseball team this year. Does anybody know the new coach? I hope Coach Lowe will come on here and tell us what he will be doing in the near future. He is too good not to continue in HS. In fact, I tried very hard to recruit him to Charlotte...and it almost worked, but I couldn't find the right trolling motor for that new Bass boat. Perhaps I can still get him down here

    Prep Notes

Walsh to replace Lowe as Vikings' baseball coach

    COMPILED BY MASON LINKER

    • Jamie Lowe has resigned as North Forsyth's baseball coach, ending a five-year run.

Lowe, who doesn't have a teaching position at North this year, said that driving from his home in Surry County would have been too much.

"It's not worth it to me to go down there without a teaching position and spend my time and money on it," Lowe said. "It just wasn't worth it for me."

Athletics Director David Atkins of North said that Emmett Walsh, a history teacher at North, has been hired as the new coach. Walsh, a former Wake Forest player, has been a head coach at New Bern and an assistant at East Forsyth under Steve Pegram.

Walsh will take over a successful program. Lowe had a record of 109-29 and led the Vikings to the Class 4-A semifinal series twice. North won 30 straight games last season before losing two straight to South Caldwell in the best-of-three Western Regional championship series.

Lowe said he plans to coach American Legion baseball in Winston-Salem this summer and that he might look for a high-school coaching job for next season.

"This wasn't easy for me to do," he said. "It was a decision I had to make but didn't want to make."

Atkins said that North was lucky to have Walsh on staff and also praised the job Lowe did, including drastic improvements to the baseball facilities.

"He was a super coach, and we will miss him," Atkins said. "He did a lot of good things, and it's unfortunate that it didn't work out for him."

Thanks for the info guys. I hate to lose a coach from the HS ranks...and certainly one that has proven to be a winner. I know that Coach Lowe will land on his feet and I hope it is in........................................................

I'm going to be careful what I say on here, because I'll probably need a recommendation from the principal when I get another job...but the whole story isn't in the paper. I was teaching technology, but wasn't certified in that area; therefore, I wasn't going to have a teaching position at North this year. But, I am certified to teach Physical Education. When the basketball coach resigned last spring and they hired a coach that was on staff to take over, I thought I had a good shot at getting that job.
Meanwhile, summer came and I did interview for another job and was offered that job. I went back to the principal and told him I needed to know if I was going to get the P.E. job, that I had another school waiting. He told me,"you have just as good a chance as anyone else, I'm not working on that right now." I waited as long as I could before I had to tell the other school "no." Two weeks before shcool started, the Athletic Director called and left me a message saying that the principal "had hired somebody for that P.E. position." As it turns out, it was the AD's cousin.
I never got an interview, a phone call or anything. I worked really hard at that school, in the school and on the athletic field. It's hard for me to believe that they never talked to me about the job. There's more to the story, but I'll stop for now.
I do have a certificate in P.E. and will be looking for a job next year. Braves, put a word in for me somewhere and I may be in Charlotte next year at this time.

I wish the kids at North the best of luck. Looking those kids in the eyes and telling them I couldn't coach them this year was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.

    Well!!!!!!!!!

Well people who know me know that I have a problem with telling it like I see it. So I will call this one like I see it. BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A man puts in that kind of hard work. Builds a program and invests his time and effort into the facilities and this is what he gets in return! Its stories like this that make me want to just go off. Coach I wish you the best. I hope that you get back into coaching as soon as you can. And I hope next time you do the people you work for appreciate your efforts and reward you in return with the same kind of loyalty you have shown them. No one that coaches HS baseball and does it right makes any money at it. In fact it cost you money to coach HS baseball. No one that does it right is in it for the money thats for sure. Hopefully the next school you coach at will understand how lucky they are to have a guy that is willing to put the effort into their program that you did at North.

The whole coaching situation at North Forsyth is a revolving door. Football, basketball, Baseball, all new coaches, one must look at the adminstration.
