This afternoon North Meck Varsity traveled to Bessemer City for a scrimmage verses B.C.. North scored many times and again their pitching showed to be quite a strength. Their defense was a little ragged today and needs to be shored up a bit. The hitting was vastly improved with many batters staying back and going the other way. It was nice to see and will benefit them come the regular season. Coach King has some position decisions to make and he has a lot of talent to make them with. I like this team a lot to go far this year.

Dunno ... I imagine there will be a bit of platooning early on. Like most teams, they probably will not settle into a normal starting lineup until conference games start in 2 weeks.

Non-conference games early on in the cold need to be looked at like a continuation of pre-season scrimmage. Yes, the games do count, but they aren't really that important. There are a lot of teams who haven't settled their line-ups going into action this week. A little healthy internal competition will make them stronger teams.

Working out the batting order for the season is a bigger task. Some players don't respond well to hitting 3rd/4th, others don't do well in the top of the order where their job is to get on base instead of drive in runs. You have to make the adjustments to get the most out of all of your players. It will take awhile for all of these things to settle in. I expect every team to "tinker" for awhile with lineups.

First, the sandbaggin'...now holding the cards close to the vest. Pops, you need to play Texas Hold 'Em. You can bluff with the best of them.
