For players, especially in the Triangle area, Northwood is having a pre-season camp for MIDDLE SCHOOL PLAYERS only. 6th, 7th and 8th graders will have an opportunity to workout with some top notch baseball people while preparing for the upcoming season.
Headlining the camp staff will be Howie Freiling, a scout and former minor league manager with the New York Mets. Coach Freiling was an 8th round pick for the Mets after starring at UNC.
Woods Fines, a Northwood alumni, is presently a pitcher in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization. He was a 14th round pick by Tampa out of high school in 2004.
Northwood Head Coach Rick Parks, a 4 year baseball letter winner at Guilford College, and Assistant Coach Randy Trumbower, a 4 year letterman in baseball at Appalachian State, will be also giving instruction as well as looking at the possible future talent for the Charger Program.
The camp will be held at Northwood HS in Pittsboro on Feb. 10th and 11th. With our all-weather hitting facility the camp will be held no matter what Ol' Man Winter brings! Our hitting facility has 3 full sized tunnels, a two mound bullpin area and additional space for tee work and soft toss... all under one roof!
The cost for this 2 day camp is $65 which includes lunch on Saturday.
Contact Coach Parks at 919-542-4181 or e-mail him at [email protected] if you would like to get your season off to a great start!

    P.S.

The hitting tunnels are all on cables so they can be slid back and the whole facility can be used for throwing/fielding drills... are any of the Coaches out there jealous yet??? ;)
We'll have a "little league" camp in June with some of our college players helping out. Details will be posted as that time nears.

    Last chance!

Today is the last day to register for the camp. We've had a great response with about 40 kids signed up already. A few spots are still available and with decent weather (for Feb.!) forecasted for the weekend it should be alot of fun!
All proceeds from the camp will go to Northwood Baseball program.

    Fantastic turnout!

Wow! 65 kids showed up for the camp Saturday! They left tired, upbeat, and with some good instruction to get them started for this season. They will finish up today with a half day session.
Coach Parks and Coach Trumbower have really brought a new attitude and spirit to the Northwood program that will grow on the success that Coach Horton started. It was great to see and talk with Coach Freiling again. He is a major league scout with the Mets and does advance scouting for the team as well as scouting major league players that the Mets might be interested in.
Tryouts start Monday.... The "Void" is over!

That's something we forgot to put on the application (high school they would attend) but I would say 70% to 75% will go to Northwood. Maybe 10% will go to Jordan Mathews or Chatham Central. We also had a number of kids that will go to either Chapel Hill or East Chapel Hill. I think there were a few Wake Co. and Durham Co. kids, possibly others mixed in.
Coach Parks made sure to talk with the guys that will be feeding into his program. He told them to expect to see him at some of their games this spring and summer.
