Thanks for helping me understand the rules. I will make sure my son's read and I help explain this for future reference.

    Thanks again.

ps...I did get bent out of shape in the "cheap seats" because my son made the throw. My boys are only a freshman so it can only help them.......and me!:innocent:
They also played for the Stretchlon team for a few years before going with the NC Stars.

    Interference on the slide

If on a force play at 2nd base the runner slides away from bag to take out the fielder then yes umpires for sure should get interference as well as call the batter/runner out for 2 outs........fans should note that the interference call at 2nd base is the responsibility of the plate umpire and not the base umpire......as the base umpire has to turn away from the slide play in order to call the potential play at 1st base.

    What's the right call?

In our conference championship game the catcher played the ball off his chest protector. It rolls in front of the batter and he (the batter) kicks it. The runner advances from 3rd to score. The umpire said it was OK - allowed the run to score because "he didn't mean to kick it". We lost the game by 1 run...

    As the fans go wild........

Great call. That exact example is in the high school case book....assuming you are talking about a missed strike 3 in the dirt that bounces off catcher and batter starts to run to first base and unintentionally kicks the ball?

it was not strike three - i think it was actually strike one. It seemed to be very intentional that he kicked it.

No-Im not saying he was acting out of the way- He did a good job for much of the game IMO. I believe if his boss wasnt watching- the call would not of been made. Now if youre talking about the laughing smiley face- That doesnt bother me.
I have watched baseball for 10 years and know its easier to make calls from the outside of the fence than on the inside. Im saying if you wish to enforce the rules for minor stuff- do so at the start of the season-not begin in game 23. I know lots of kids wear this stuff-it would be interesting to know if this ump worked lots of games and how many kids he DQ-d for the same reason. Most of the times umpires uses a little judgement on things, example the pitcher has a white t shirt ot wrist ban- he tells him to remove it while he is on the mound in some cases- If kids get out of the dugout- they warn them to get back in, if coaches get out of the coaches box or argue calls to much- they generally tell them not to say anything else or you out of here.
We won the game and the sun came up the next day-so all was well.

    Umpire interference??

Runner at second (I believe) and umpire is on the infield grass. Ball is a slow roller to the shortstop; shortstop charges and runs into the umpire and cannot make the play. I understand the umpire is part of the field and this is just hard luck - however -

Similar situation later in the game except this time the infield is in for a play at the plate (runner on 3rd). The shortstop, as instructed by his coaches, politely asks the umpire to move out of his field of vision to the batter. The umpire refuses to move. The shortstop has to change his position to a disadvantagous one (more to 3rd base side) in order to see the batter and have a line to any ball hit.

After that inning, head coach calls the umpire over and says "I have never seen anything like that before" - glazed look from the umpire.

    Does this make sense??

    Set in stone ump

As a courtesy to players the umpire should move when asked......glazed look? maybe he was.....oh never mind.
