HS Coaches are getting better......not in all areas but overall, Better!

Yeah Politics is in the equation...........you have a voice,in numbers of course but insist it in your community and it will spill over into the high school.

Could be many factors, politics, DADDY BALL, or maybe the coach is just trying to fill out the team!!!!!:brickwall:----------- I'm very fortunate, my kid is a starting freshman for the Varsity,so she doesn't sit alot, unless we get ahead of the game then she might come out...

    hs coaches

i've been a hs coach for the last five years, and i've seen some interesting things in that period of time. pressure comes from above to play certain girls, booster club puts pressure on ya at times, or did until we removed the past president, but the worst is parents. take any parent who has survived at least three years of travel ball, take the most outspoken person, they wont stand up to the parents i have had for the last two years. it's easy to cure, but painfull to hear the constant barrage from the stands. ya get thick skin real fast. i, for one, dont have the option of putting talent on the bench, if ya can play, you're on the field, period.

CHEEZE is right...I would have to say the parents are the worst enemy against the coaches...can you imagine a team winning (5) State Titles in (3) years, winding up 5th in the nation in the NSA World in 2004,Runner-Up in the ASA State in 2006, and winning the WFC World in 2006, and the parents still complaining about different issues... GO FIGURE !!!!

    Coaches-------:bitecurb:---------- Parents

It would be real easy to have THICK SKIN under those circumstances. I would LOVE to have a record like that and a parent approach me..........WOULD LOVE IT

One thing I didn't think about was the coaching aspect. Some schools I know just stick a History or Math teacher in the job, whether they know anything about softball or not.. Then I could see politics coming into it. But as I told our middle school kids........I Don't care if your Charles Manson's kid.......Throw strikes, your pitching........and I would think any softball coach who knows the game and wants to WIN would operate.

I CANNOT see how GOOD coaches would sit somebody that could help them win.......maybe I'm naive and maybe I'll have a different tune next year.......but as for right now and I know 99% of the girls playing softball at our HS........And I know the ones complaining are NOT GOOD ENOUGH right now.....

our hs approach is simple, put your best nine in the field, if you have one who's bat is better than one of the nine, use her as the designated hitter (or whatever they plan on calling it this year). train the other girls hard, if a starter falters, replace them asap and hope the replacement is able to step up NOW!!!! we tell our pine riders that you have to be ready at the call of your name. step up or sit down. most of the teams in our conference have an assistant or head coach with travel ball experience. politics, politics, politics

I have been on all sides of the fence

I can only say that I have been a parent, coach, spectator and the last being the easiest of the choices. It is not easy to be a coach, if it was everyone would volunteer! But it would be nice if the coaches would do things in a fair manner! Cheeze105, it sounds like you are doing it the right way!
Look all I can say is if you are a parent that feels your kid isn't getting what you feel they deserve, move to the neighborhood where your buddy from TB coaches and your DD will get what they want! I don't mean that as sarcastic, just that is the only thing you can do! Because if you are at one of those programs (coach problem, politics, not enough money to the booster club), it isn't going to change in 4 years, unless the coach retires, moves, leaves, whatever, etc.... Hey, these days kids move to new HS for sports, everyday!! If you have the money and can, do it! Or if you have the money offer enough to the booster club to buy what you want! I don't know that figure, sorry, you will have to get that from someone else! I am sure it is a different figure for every school!
But now along with that, if your DD has issues, not playing up to speed, bad attitude, not giving 100%, etc... (and you must be honest with yourself on these) then no matter what program you take her to, there will be problems. Yes we all know that there are those "prema donnas" on every team that gets away with having the tude from @#*$! But you can't have it all, this is reality! Good Luck and look forward to the days when you can be just a spectator!:headphones:It is sooo much fun!!!
