    East Rowan vs. South Rowan

Lots of questions have been raised concerning the pitching at East Rowan. Corbin Shive (#1) and Trey Holmes (#2) have been bothering arm ailments and Kent Basinger (#3) is out with an early season knee injury. I was told that a combination of Justin Roland and Shive will throw against South today. Roland will probably start as the Mustangs aren't sure Shive is ready to go the distance yet.

    East 5 South 0

    East Rowan 5
    South Rowan 0

    WP: Corbin Shive
    LP: Ryan Bostian

Out of East's 5 runs, only 1 was earned and it was a home run by Shive down the right field line that was barely fair and it was very questionable. The next two runs were scored when East runners were picked off 3rd and the ball got away, allowing the runs to scored. East's 4th run was scored on a passed ball in the 4th inning and the final run was scored later in the 4th when a throw got away at 2nd base, allowing a runner at 3rd. As for South's hitting, Shive was under control for the first 5 innings and Roland breezed through the last 2 to finish it. South had two chances. In the 3rd, runners at 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs (#3 hitter up) and in the fifth, runners at 1st and 2nd with 2 outs (#2 hitter up). Shive induced flyouts to right both times. All in all, East played great fundamental defense (as always) and South gave a good team too many outs. Without a quality pitching performance from Bostian, East could have won this one big.

    East Rowan vs. West Rowan

East Rowan senior Trey Holmes will return to the mound today to pitch against West Rowan. Holmes who was projected to be East's ace last year as a junior, hasn't pitched in over a year due to a injury suffered while sliding into a base early in the season last year.

Holmes will be on a pitch count and probably won't go more than 3-4 innings if successful.

East got good news last week when Corbin Shive returned and pitched well against South Rowan on Friday. If Holmes is back healthy, then they could have a very formidable pitching staff moving forward on a team that is already out to a 5-0 start in the NPC.

South Rowan improves to 7-1 and 5-1 in the conference with an 11-9 win over Lake Norman with Lamascola (sp?) on the hill. Wasn't at the game, but have heard it was an ugly game with 10 errors and South only collected 4 hits to score 11 runs.
