Will College Coaches Attend? Over 120 regional college coaches will be notified of locations and times and invited to attend. We cannot predict which coaches will attend any one camp. However, any coach who attends one of the camps will receive the profile information on prospects from all four camps. Rosters and results (times) of the drills will be posted on NSR Carolina's Web site at www.nsr-inc.com/carolinas and college coaches across the nation will have access to this information. (Direct contact information, however, will not be posted on the Internet for security and safety reasons.)

National Scouting Report announces a series of Skills 'n Drills Showcase Camps and invites high school prospects from across NC in the 2006, 2007 and 2008 classes to attend. The four camps will be held at UNC Wilmington, Peace College, Elon University and Catawba College. These camps are for legitimate college prospects and are limited to 52 players for each camp. Pre-registering today will assure your roster spot. Deadline: May15.

Pitchers will be clocked, catchers' pop times will be taken, all campers will be timed in a home-to-first sprint, and each player will be timed in the pro shuttle run. All players will attend a 20-minute, NCAA sanctioned seminar, take infield and/or outfield practice (two positions per player), provided lunch and then scrimmage in front of attending college coaches.

"Players who want to get recruited...need to start the process...as sophomores and no later than their junior year. They don't need to wait until the fall or winter of their senior year because we need to see them play to evaluate (them)." Bob Brookens, Head Coach, Shippensburg University, from Fastpitch Delivery.

Parents are encouraged to bring video cameras for the purpose of filming their kids for later distribution to college coaches. Designated filming stations will be provided along with professional advice on setting up shots.

Camps will start at 8:30 AM and end at approximately 3:00 PM. Parents, area high school and club team coaches are welcome to attend. A limited number of qualified parents and coaches may volunteer to serve as team leaders (contact info provided below). Lunch and staff T-shirts will be provided for volunteers.

The camps are not operated by the college coaches. They are serving as host sites. Camps will be held at the following sites on the corresponding dates:

UNC Wilmington, Tuesday, June 14, 2005 (Head Coach Melissa Jarrell).
Peace College, Thursday, June 16, 2005 (Head Coach Charlie Dobbins).
Elon University, Tuesday, June 21, 2005 (Head Coach Patti Raduenz).
Catawba College, Thursday, June 23, 2005 (Head Coach Nan Whitley).

The cost per player of $95.00 will include a camp T-shirt, lunch, college campus tour, insurance, NCAA-sanctioned seminar by NSR's director of scouting, and an open Q&A for parents and players. Players are responsible for providing their own equipment and beverages for the day, although water will be freely available. Deadline: May 15.

Prospects will be taken on a first-come-first-serve basis and must provide the following info upon registering: Name, High School, Travel Team, Date of Graduation, Position(s), GPA, SAT or PSAT (if taken), height, weight, intended college major.

Over 120 regional college coaches will be notified of the camp locations and times and will be invited to attend. Results will be posted on NSR Carolina's Web site at www.nsr-inc.com/carolinas and college coaches across the nation will have access to this information.

Moreover, we are big fans of Rodney and The Lady Blues organization. We think they do a wonderful job and encourage kids to attend Sneak A Peak, if they can. Then, come to ours, too. The more exposure, the better. NSR and the Lady Blues are not in competition for campers. The two are nearly three weeks apart. If there are NC prospects who cannot attend the Lady Blues camp for whatever the reason (timing, scheduling, distance, convenience, etc.), we are a viable, professional alternative for them. If kids want to improve on their times, speed or other skills from the Lady Blues Camp, and would like to have that info documented for college coaches, they can accomplish that at one of our camps.

We would never discourage a kid and a parent from doing what they think is best for them. They can choose to go to either or both, or neither for that matter.

Rodney and I communicated about this several times last year via E-mail and, while I do not want to speak for him, I believe there is mutual respect and support of our efforts to assist young women as they take advantage of every attempt to be evaluated by college coaches. Doing so not only takes kids one step closer to fulfilling a dream, but can mean thousands of dollars in money to their family if they earn a scholarship.

Anyone hinting that a kid should choose one camp over the other is missing the point. As many kids as possible having the opportunity to be seen by college coaches is the point.

Let's all understand it is about the kids and getting them exposed to the best and largest group of colleges coaches that are available regardless of the Showcase event or camp. I support anyone that loves the game and is working to get the young ladies that play fastpitch seen and recruited. Does not matter to me where they play or which college they want to attend, we all need to work together and help them reach their dream. Let's have a great summer of softball.

I know a lot of players really enjoyed the skills camp last year and quite a few have told me they play on attending again this year.

Coaches Welcome

We would encourage high school and travel coaches to attend our camps, either as observers or team leaders. If you can attend, please let me know and we will do our best to make you feel welcome.

NSRTopScout,could be that if you listed the girls at each campus that you have so far,some may see their names & sign up, also maybe a college coach might see a name they want to see.Just a suggestion,& good luck to all the gals!

Elon & Catawba

Close to fielding four complete teams at Elon and Catawba. We need position players (we cannot take more pitchers) who have a keen desire to play in college. Two days remaining for pre-registration for these two camps.

Reminder to college coaches: attend one camp and receive the profiles, camp results and contact info on what has grown to 80+ participants.

Note: Participants at Peace have been moved to other camps.
