NW Cabarrus vs. Ragsdale

Here's my write-up from last year's playoff game (5-17-05):

W Cabarrus: 6 Ragsdale: 4

The Trojans chase Ragsdale starter Jake Kinsmo (***apology to Ragsdale fans for butchering these names....I'll try to correct them later***) in the 3rd and build a 6-1 lead. Kinsmo then gave way to Trevor Mullins who shut down the Trojans the rest of the way.

NWC starter Blake Ketner was cruising until the 6th when the patient Tiger bats steadily upped his pitch count and made the big guy tired. After a couple of infield base hits, a hit, a walk, and a couple of errors, NWC survives the big inning this time as Ketner clawed his way out of trouble to retain a 6-4 lead (Ragsdale had the tying run on 1st).

Ketner then gave way to lefty Nick Daniels in the 7th. Nick, who had already hit an RBI opposite-field double and made a great run-saving stop in the 2nd, hung a curve that Jake Kinsmo lined right back at him-------it bounced off Nick's glove and bounced to the 3rd base line, Nick immediately pounced on the ball and through an absolute strike to Ketner at 1st-------only to have the ball go through Ketner's glove (how do you score this? equipment malfunction? I hate to give Blake an error on this one). The broken glove then became moot point when Daniels snagged a liner and doubled up the runner at 1st (whew!) Daniels then induced Jason Wallace to ground out to end the game, seal NW Cabarrus' 20th win and earn his first save of the season.

btw just for the record

It was Jake Kensmoe - he's did a walkon now scholarship at NC State

and JP Polchinski. JP was the heart of the team last year. State champion wrestler - great third baseman. He dislocated his knee late in the season and it never slowed him down ( hey BRAVES - remember my little knee incident :1peekdoor ? ) JP is playing for West Point this year.

All I can say is - thank God Blake Ketner has graduated. We saw enough of him between legion ball and the playoffs. Didn't Kyle Seager play on that legion team too?

It will be a great game.

 

Kyle played Legion his sophomore year and went the showcase route last year (Impact Dirtbags). He and several others that didn't play Legion ball last year including Jake and Jerrod Faggart will be in uniform for Post 501 this summer.

 

Wow...that team will be loaded.

Good luck to your Tigers this year in the playoffs, Wossa. This might be there year.

 

Braves, Post 501 won't be loaded,,,,, we are rebuilding this year...
Btw, Blake is coming back for his final year of legion ball also...

As for this 1st round matchup between Ragsdale & NW Cabarrus, its definitely THE GAME of the 1st round. Ragsdale is deserving of its #1 ranking and this is basically the same NW Cabarrus team that went to last year's state finals, minus Blake & Nick. Definitely 2 of the best 3A teams in the state will be on the same field in Jamestown on Tuesday.

Wossa,,, you gotta be there.
