Player of the Year: Alex Thompson (Reynolds)

    1st Team:

    Ali Ford (Freedom)
    Kurie Washington (McDowell)
    Brianna Worley (Reynolds)
    Lea Smith (McDowell)
    Carlie Lakey (South Caldwell)

    2nd Team:

    Kelsea Greene (McDowell)
    Alex Ervin (Freedom)
    Michala Micheaux (Freedom)
    Amanda Whitaker (Reynolds)
Any of the other South Caldwell girls? (Hobbs?, Church?, Kidd?)

Coach of the Year: Mike Silver (McDowell)

As far as the picks, I feel the first team and P.O.Y. are safe bets right now. Of course that could change. I agree with titan90 as far as Silver being once again Coach of the Year. He's got these girls once again in a spot to win the conference. Picked to finish as low as 5th in the conference by some people, I think Mike once again proves he is one of the best coaches to ever coach in this state. Ask Sonita Gibbs over there at Asheville how hard it is to rebuild...:laugh1:

I agree with most of the posted picks but not the POY choice.
Ford has outplayed thompson in both head to head match-ups so it's got to be Washington or Ford for POY. I think Ford has taken Thompson out of the POY race...but remember the coaches vote...not us. So they will remember who played the best against them and Worley and Thomppson being on the same team might actually hurt them in that type of voting, where they all had to focus alot on Ford and Washington preping for games.
Is Ford's 35 vs Reynolds the high game of the NW4A season..anyone know??? MHO

    i like the picks above...

i wonder if coach parham from South will get the nod from his peers... His team has seemed to have the biggest turn around...

the drawback would be the inconsistency at times... i have always respected him, and i think he finally put together a more competitive, complete group...

he might be a long shot, but i bet he will get votes

Courage is FEAR, that said it's PRAYERS.
Remember this isn't a one on one game. Thompson wasn't out there to beat Ford, ACR was out there to beat Freedom in both those games which they did. Ford is a great player however what Thompson does for ACR isn't just about scoring, she isn't asked to do all the scoring that is why you might not see her outscore Ford in all the matchups. ACR has other talent that does alot of the scoring as well and why Thompson in SECOND in WNC according to the Asheville Citizen Times in assist to go along with being SIXTH in scoring. Being player of the year is about leading your team to VICTORY which Thompson does everything, scoring, assist, steals, rebounding and other things that don't show up in the box score to lead this team to a 17-1 record. If it were just about scoring, sure Ford would be right up there.

I have to agree with Reynoldsrocks on this one...Thompson should be favorite for P.O.Y right now because she is a more "complete" player. Actually I think Thompson is a bit underrated when it comes to her ability to play defense. While Ford is such a scoring machine, shes got other areas in which to improve.

You must have misssed my point...If player of the year is the best player or not that's the question.. if it's best player -then coaches would vote for who they have to prepare for the most as an individual...ala Ford; if it's a team at the top's best player then Washington , then thompson...I think coaches would view it that way. This isn't a secret ballot...it's my understanding that the coaches meet and can put up those they recommend for POY and all-conference and plead their case for that kid...then they vote. (coaches will know 4 of FHS losses have came on last shot, they're not getting blown away)
Thompson being a senior will help her case but I can't see half the coaches believing that's the better player they saw on the court.
and btw Ford's assists per game are the same as thompson's from what is listed on website, shooting % is listed at over 50%, while drawing the full attention of every team every game (even Reddick at Duke has Williams).
I Stick with my position that it's a Ford-Washington Race right now. If ACR wins the conf.- that will put more pressure on to vote for Thompson.

Don't you think East Burke has played good enough to maybe get 1 girl on second team???

So...ACR has to win the conference for you to even consider giving your vote to Thompson (even though she has clearly led this team to the 17-1 record they are at) but Freedom can finish up to fifth in the conference and Ford is your clear favorite, nah no bias there.

    Player of The Year-Alex Thompson

    First Team

    Washington (McDowell)
    L. Smith (McDowell)
    Worley (Reynolds)
    Ford (Freedom)
    Lakey (South)

    Second Team

    Greene (McDowell)
    Ervin (Freedom)
    Hobbs (South)
    Whitaker (Reynolds)
    ????????????

Coach of the Year would def. have to go to Mike Silver after losing 4 starters and that is why south's coach does not get my vote only because he has everyone returning, but a great job he has done in sawmills.
