Well here comes another week of exciting NW4A girls basketball...BIG game Friday night at ACR when Freedom comes calling....Let's hear some thoughts on this weeks games!

    TUESDAY JAN 27TH:

Alexander Central at A. C. Reynolds: should get ugly..IF ACR isn't looking ahead to Freedom, check that it will still get U-G-L-Y!

    Watauga at Freedom: SEE ABOVE

South Caldwell at East Burke: South better not take anything for granted East isn't bad at home, but South has the best team and should win.

    FRIDAY JAN 30TH:

Freedom at A. C. Reynolds: Well, well, everyone in Burke AND McDowell counties will be pulling for Freedom in this one, and Freedom will be looking for a bit of revenge. ACR went in and stole a victory from Freedom in Morganton earlier this year. This should come down to wether ACR can handle the ball, and can Freedom stop ACR's post game, and rebounding. Should be a great game!

Watauga at McDowell: Another game that has U-G-L-Y written all over it! McDowell will dominate this game from tip to buzzer, and move on to next week.

East Burke at Alexander Central: Alexander will still be searching for their first conference victory, and unless they play really well, this won't be it. East has Helton and that should be enough to beat Alexander Central. The Cougars will be in the game since it's a home game but it's going to be a Cavs win when the buzzer sounds.

Here's to all the gals staying healthy throughout this week and all playing well!

    tuesday night games...

acr should handle alexander with little problem, and freedom should handle watauga with ease...

the east / south game is huge for those two teams... without crunching the numbers, etc., i would say that east has to win this to make the playoffs... and if south takes care of business, they will be that much closer to that 4th playoff spot... if east loses, it will be close to impossible for them to play post-season...

    friday night games...

watauga will lose to mcdowell, and alexander will lose to east burke...

the big game for friday will be the freedom / acr matchup... if freedom brings it's A-game, acr better watchout... acr definitely has what it takes to beat freedom again, but i imagine freedom is going to come out fighting hard... this game could go either way, and most likely will come down to which team wants it the most...

obviously, nothing is certain in this league, but i think that only 2 of the 6 games this week will be worth watching...

I appreciate you imput, and agree with your analysis. East Burke/South Caldwell, and Freedom/AC Reynolds will be the games to watch this week. The others should be a blowout! That one Friday night at ACR should be great, and I think Freedom will come up here with fire in their eyes. I think ACR will have to play a top notch game to come out on top, which they can do, and have done i.e. the McDowell game last Tuesday Night. Thing about ACR is they tend to play to the level of the competition which when Freedom comes calling ACR should be ready. WHO knows in this league you just never know....should be a lot of fun though!

Looks like we are going to have quite a few postponed games for Tuesday. With temps in the 20's, I don't see school happening in Watuaga, Burke or Alexander Counties tomorrow. They might try to play some of these games Wednesday, but that may be a bit of a stretch as of now. I think the more likely scenario might be Saturday.

Even with the bad weather, here are my predictions for the games scheduled for Tuesday:

Alex. Central @ AC Reynolds:As a few people from Reynolds have told me in the past, the Lady Rockets are bad to play up or down to their competition. The best thing for Reynolds is to come out and try to get an early knockout. If they can shoot the three like they did against McDowell int he first period, it will be over in a hurry. I'm picking Reynolds by 22.

Watauga @ Freedom: Freedom bounced back with an impressive 101-52 trouncing of East Burke. Now, the Lady Patriots need to keep building on that win and get the momentium going into the Friday Night matchup against Reynolds. I pick Freedom by 19.

South Caldwell @ East Burke: South Caldwell is the better team, but I think East Burke will come out on their home court and play just hard enough to win the game. South has the better talent, but I would think Coach Murray will have those girls ready after getting embarassed against Freedom.

I see no way Reynolds and Alexander Central will play on Tuesday Night. However, the temps here in Asheville are suppose to be in the 40's on Wednesday so if it isn't too bad down Alexander Central's way we probably will play on Wednesday. That is just my guess. But I have no idea what it is like down that way. WOW Bigdan picking East Burke to upset South Caldwell. Can't wait to see if you are right! :xyzwave:

the weather as you head east of Asheville on I-40 gets much worse. The big key to all of this is the fact that the temperatures are much lower in Hickory and Taylorsville, then say Asheville. Asheville is currently 28 degrees, while Hickory and Statesville is still hanging around 23-24 degrees, at least according to The Weather Channel. Not much melting going on down here in the foothills.

Back to the games, yeah I see an upset going on. As bad as East Burke is and as bad as they got beat by Freedom last week, you would have to think that East Burke is going to put one game together where everything goes right. Plus they are at home, I just feel this might be the time. Now that I have predicted this, East Burke will probably lose by 40 points... :lol2:

The roads here in Asheville are fairly clear, don't think schools will be in session on Tuesday, but Wednesday should be a go as well. Like I said Wednesday it's suppose to be sunny and in the low 40's. Now, back to the games....East Burke played Reynolds a fairly good game in the first half Friday Night but had nothing for the second half as ACR ran away and left them. They are tougher at home, and can pull the upset...I just don't see it. South has a good team and can shoot the ball. I see them winning by 13.

Well, it's official the AC Reynlds/Alexander Central game will be played on Wednesday night, weather premitting of course. Don't know about the weather in the Taylorsville area but here in Asheville on Wednesday the temps are expected to be near 44 and sunny and windy. So everything should be clear enough for the game up here, depends on the conditions in Taylorsville and areas between here and there.
