    let's get the facts straight

I have been attacked on this board by a few sore losers from south caldwell this week and I want to set the facts straight. I was at the game tuesday night and yes I was having fun with the refs, just as I have been doing for the last 16 years. I started the skunk man thing in 1989 when my neices and nephews were playing for the Titans. It took off so well that when I was unable to attend a game the players and other fans would see me in public and ask,Where were you last night,we sure could have used the skunk. I know most of the refs and am friends with several of them and according to coach laney who is still active in the program they have never had a complaint about me having a little fun with the stuffed skunk. I have never cursed at a ref or an opposing team. I did have a ref throw me out of a game at mcdowell a couple of years ago but from what I understand this ref, from burke county was reprimanded by the booking agent and I have had no trouble with him since. Some my question my actions as the lady from south caldwell did by refering to me as an idiot. But those who have known me through the years know I do it because I love the titans and I love to have fun at every game. Getting back to what transpired this past Tuesday. It seemed like a few of the south caldwell fans wanted to cause trouble with the mcdowell fans sitting behind our home bench. I sit there for most of the game ignoring their rude insults but then near the end of the girls game they moved down, right on top of us and started stomping our coats with their feet. When told to stop by one fan one of the young men responded what are you going to do about it old man ,do you want to fight. I had heard enough,I got up went over to one of my friends ,a deputy who was standing by the court and told him what was going on. He stood there a few minutes and watched as 2 of these young men continued to argue with the older Mcdowell fan and then went over and called the young south caldwell fans to the lobby and spoke with them. They were not thrown out of the gym. This was the first time I can remember having any trouble like this with opposing fans at the TitanDome. I hope it never happens again but I will continue to support the Lady Titans and Titans and if I can help in any way by skunking a ref on a bad or questionable call I will. Dan you do a great job running this board, keep up the good work. Warden,I know you are an emotional guy and can get carried away at times but we value your friendship and hope you and big dan can work out your problems. Good luck to all teams tonight,tonync55,alias the skunk man.

Lady Titans cling to victory, barely. Some of the players never really got untracked, and foul trouble haunted Lea Smith.

Ali Ford had a great game, but sat most of the 3rd, and that's when Freedom actually moved to their biggest lead.

Both teams had crucial mistakes, and some scoring from some subs, ie. Courtney Griffith and Stephanie Wilson from Freedom.

Tough luck for Freedom, and one of those games you have to have for the Lady Titans.

Close game in the first half as Reynolds scored first 5 points of the game and lead for most of the first half. SC tied the game at the end of the half. SC started the second half by building a 15 point lead and AC was never was really able to catch up. They did cut the lead to single digits but had to foul in the end to stop the clock and Hobbs and Lakey hit all their free throws (something SC has not been doing) to seal the win.

Congrats to South. Looks like you've forced Reynolds to hold serve at home Tuesday against McDowell, or Lady Titans enter the second half alone in first.

Sounds like your defense shut them down?

All three teams will have to win their home games this year to have a chance at the conference title. The team that finishes on top will be the team that can still one on the road

first off...congrats to South Caldwell on their big win tonight against AC Reynolds. I felt going into this week that they had fairly good chance at beating them, and even more so after watching the game against McDowell.

Tonight's McDowell/Freedom reminded me of what the Freedom/McDowell rivalry was like before McDowell started this run of games against them. There were some key moments in the game.

First off, Lea Smith gets her fourth foul the first minute of the second half, she turns into a non-factor the entire second half. McDowell, even without her had a lead as high as eight points. Ali Ford gets her third foul for Freedom, at the time down five, they end up going up nine points with Ford on the bench. The Freedom folks were loving that...

Normally up nine going into the fourth, Freedom puts teams away. Well, McDowell responds with a 9-0 run to tie the game back up, again without Lea Smith. Game is tied, Lea comes in and draws a couple fouls on the Freedom interior. But another huge call was made, Smith fould out with approximately (3:45) to go in the game. Freedom hits their foul shots and the McDowell lead is one. McDowell has made this run in the fourth pretty much with a lineup that consists of Greene, Dages, Courney Griffith (a girl who stepped up big tonight) Jessica Smith and Chaunda Hill. Then McDowell's coach makes IMO a smart move. Greene, Griffith and Washington holds the ball out for nearly 90 seconds before running the offense. Freedom coaches decides to stay in zone and let the Lady Titans melt the clock. From about the 2:20 point until the end, both teams went back and forth. In the end, Freedom came down on the last possession and did everything they could to get Ford an open shot. Three Lady Titans were in her general area, Ford puts up a shot which was short, Freedom gets two more shots to put it in and couldn't and the Lady Titans come out of there with the victory.

I know the Freedom folks wanted to end the streak tonight, that's a tough way to lose one. I think McDowell winning in the fashion they did tonight speaks volumes of how this team has matured since the beginning of the season. I thought both squads played well for the most part, again Ford worked for every shot she made, but that's another testament of just how good a player she is.

    a great game

Man this was a great game to watch. The Ford girl from Freedom is one heck of a ballplayer. I believe McDowells star, kurie washington was under the weather. When the game was on the line coach silvers called the time out and out foxed{:thud: } the Lady patriots with the stall. That was something you rarely see the run and gun lady titams do but it was a great call. I look foward to the rematch in the TitanDome.
