    Oh, okay. I wasn't sure where he had played but I thought it was first base. And you are right, Overbey is a very good player and I shouldn't have left him out either. They also had a very good jv team last year so although they will be young, I'm sure they will compete. Sorry for the mistake.

    That's like me me worrying about turning 41. It's going to happen and I'm sick about it.

    flotg-Thanks for sharing that. I know ACR lost a ton of talent during the last two years, but you guys have two things going for you;
    great coaching
    a big off-seaon schedule
    BTW, that '06 ACR team was one of the most talented HS teams I ever saw.

    No problem - and no real mistake - just wanted to clarify a bit..

    Thanks 007 - they were pretty good, weren't they. IMHO, those 18 boys could've been coached by just about anybody knowledgeable about baseball and they would've still been good - most of 'em had played together since LL, had been taught along the way by good baseball guys, and they knew the game - throw in a few others that were just plain good baseball players, and you ended up with a really good team. That team ended up initally with a total of 6 D1 (5 baseball/1 football), 1 NAIA, and 3 JUCO players, and 3 were drafted. As of this year, 5 are still D1 (4 baseball/1 football), 2 are NAIA, 2 are JUCO, and 1 is playing minor league ball. And, there's still the chance that some of 'em might make it to the next level in a few years - we can only hope! They were a great group of guys!

    have to think we'll find out what good coaches there are at ac reynolds this year. as flotg said there aren't too many coaches who couldn't have won with that group. so far it seems the coach at ac reynolds has won when they have had a huge advantage in talent especially pitchers, when he didn't have them the results were lacking.

    You know, it's easy just to focus on the "name" players, but the conference standings really hinges on several things such as;
    1)pitching
    2)overall talent
    3)coaching (in-season & 8 man development)
    4)summer schedule
    5)fall schedule
    6)prior varsity experience
    So, does any one person have a handle on all these factors for all the teams ?
    I don't think so, but if I was going to take a stab at identifying the leaders in each category, I'd go with:
    1) South Caldwell
    2) Watauga
    3) Watauga
    4) McDowell
    5) ACR
    6)McDowell
    Now, if we had enough collective info to ID the top 3 in each category, then you could be guessing with confidence...
    I'll play;
    1)SC/Wat/McD
    2)Wat/McD/AC
    3)Wat/SC/AC
    4)McD/EB/SC
    5)ACR/SC/?
    6)McD/AC/EB
    Totaling these categories up on a sliding scale, I get;
    Watauga 14 points
    SC 13 points
    McDowell 11 points
    AC 7 points
    as the 4 NW4A playoff teams in 08.

    wins and losses does not make a great coach look at how the kids look up to him and respect the program that is how you tell if you have a good coach and playing for coach craig when he was a coach at eb and then coaching against him for the last few years i will have to say he is a class act and runs a great program
