Are there enough NW4A readers on TBR to keep this thread current? Let's give it a shot. Here goes:

    3/1 AC Reynolds 5- Asheville 1
    3/4 AC Reynolds 3- TC Roberson 13

Game one...soph. righthander Sam Runion got the win.
Game two...junior leftie Blaine Howell absorbed the loss.

Runion was impressive against the Cougars and has a nice write-up on Impact..Howell is much better than he showed against the Rams and was victimized by several errors...game was tied thru 3 or 4?..that said, full credit to the Rams, Thrailkill was tough in front of a big crowd and Maybin hit an absolute bomb, added two singles and stole five bases...a great team.

The Rockets have big hopes this season...If you're a NW4A fan, let's hear it!

Don't worry....this thread will stay up. There are plenty of people who love their NW4A. I try to keep up with both the SW4A and the NW4A. Good luck to all the teams and try to report scores if you get a chance.

South Caldwell is undefeated so far with a 2-1 win last night over Wilkes Central. I think that is 5 and 0.

The jv team is killing everyone so far and have ended every game by the mercy rule. I think they are averaging over 20 runs a game and averaging giving up less than 1

Greg Holland. who graduated from MHS last year, got his first start on the mound for WCU against GA. ST. Greg pitched 4 innings and gave up 1 run while striking out 3 batters. Greg walked on the baseball team and is now in the rotation. Not bad for a freshman. For his size he can bring the heat (91-93mph). I never could understand why Coach Blake did not use Greg more in high school. He only threw in 4 or 5 games his junior year. As a senior Blake did not use him as much as he should have. He is also an excellent student in the classroom.

Keep up the good work Greg.

    McDowell 11 Owen 0

Evian Miller got the win for MHS. He allowed just 5 hits and struck out 11. Owen was ranked #2 in the last poll I saw for the 2A classification. Look for MHS to start freshman Justin Johnson on the mound tonight against East Rutherford. MHS is 3-2 for the year.

It's posted in another thread, but Watauga beat Mt. Tabor 6-2. The Pioneers are 1-3 with 2 losses at N. Forsyth and one at S. Meck.

    The plot thickens...

Once you get past South Caldwell, it looks like a dogfight for the 2 remaining NW4A playoff spots with alot of teams beating up on each other and much gnashing of teeth by fans and coaches. The AC Reynolds-Alexander Central game looks like the most intriguing matchup in week one. Might be a hard year to figure who to save your #1 pitcher for...Speaking of pitching, the 07 (soph) class looks strong league-wide. Here is a list of young guns:
    AC Reynolds-*Sam Runion
    Alexander Central-Dustin Harrington
    East Burke-Josh McDaniels
    Freedom-Zack Daw,Andrew Tallent (? 06 or 07)
    McDowell-Larry Dixson, Justin Johnson-08
South Caldwell-*Madison Bumgarner, Justin Poovey, Derek Coffee
    Watauga-*Ryan Anderson, Logan Bailey
not sure who E Burke and Freedom will run out.
    *-#1 starters
Now than Payne and Taylor have graduated, the marquee matchup looks like Bumgarner vs. Runion.
