13 runs for McDowell in the 2nd inning made this one a blowout...

    Spartans rally for win

Down by one run heading into the top of the seventh inning, South Caldwell rallied to get a 6-2 win over A.C. Reynolds Monday in Fairview. Zac Greer's two-RBI double and David Evans' three-run homer in the Spartans' last at bat lifted the team to victory.

South Caldwell improved to 7-1 overall, 4-1 in the Northwestern 4-A Conference. The Spartans have won five straight games.

Cody Poarch (4-0) picked up the victory on the mound, striking out six and allowing only three hits in the complete-game effort. Phillip Treadway's first-inning homer was the first run Poarch had allowed all season.

Even after South's Cody Penny tied the game back up with a solo shot of his own in the fourth inning, the Spartans found themselves in trouble. Jake Hill's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning put A.C. Reynolds up 2-1 with South down to its last turn at the plate. But a Blake Johnson walk, a Jonathan Gray single and a Penny hit-by-pitch loaded the bases, and Greer delivered with a shot into the right-center field gap. Evans followed with the three-run homer to left that put the game out of reach.

Poarch closed the game out with a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh.

I was stationed down the right field line and it looked like a routine fly ball that the right fielder misjudged. He had to go back maybe 10 steps but it was a routine play imo. It certainly wasn't in right-center.
