No Stats were kept for Watauga vs Newton-Conover. WHS scored 3 times in the 10 play periods to NC's 1 (on a reverse WR pass when Eric was on the sideline). In the full field scrimmage Watauga won 21-0. WHS looked very good. Eric ran the ball well and hit well. Newton-Conover ran the wing T alright. Watauga's quarterbacks read the option better last night than before. Adam Chiarlonzio and Blake Beason both had nice runs.

    HUH?

Sorry to see a kid get hurt, but what part of the NW4A did that involve?

Didn't East Burke scrimmage last night (Thursday)? Also how did the other NW4A teams do tonight?

Alexander Central will host Fred T Foard, Burns, and Statesville in a scrimmage Saturday night at 7pm in Taylorsville.

McDowell scrimmaged Sun Valley and Lake Norman friday night down at Lake Norman...the coaching staff at McDowell has committed 100 percent to providing a more balanced offense and I think McDowell fans will be shocked at just how much we'll throw it this year, a 60/40 rush-to-pass ratio is very likely and it could be even closer than that.

Our offense looked very good against a large and athletic Sun Valley defense. Buggy broke through the middle numerous times including a couple touchdown runs which had all the Sun Valley fans up in arms. BTW if SV played in the NW4A they would be right up there with Reynolds fighting for the conference on a consistant basis. While our offense looked pretty good, our defense is still a long ways from where Coach Haynie wants it. To me its baffling as to why these kids cannot stop players on defense? I don't think it has anything to do with the scheme, to me its just the fact that we cannot make a play defensively (i.e. proper open field tackles). The plan this year from all indications is to keep Buggy off defense if possible but that could very well change.

One thing I did like from McDowell was that Coach Haynie did treat this like a scrimmage and used his 2nd string offense and protected Kincaid while the other two schools had a load of kids that never saw the playing field.

I am actually glad to hear that McDowell looked good last night, however Sun Valley fighting for our conference title consistantly, I doubt. The last 7 years they have won 25 games, including 2 different (1-10) seasons, and an (0-11) season. Even McDowell, the worst team in the NW4A, in number of wins only, over the last 7 years won 26 games, while ACR the best team in wins in our conference won 71 games. Last year Sun Valley did win 10 games and seemed to have improved, but overall every year, I don't think they would compete.

Congrats to McDowell on the improvement though the tougher the conference the better it makes everyone in the playoffs.

Sounds good so far (except for the defense)....But one thing that hampered us last year was the kicking game. Who is the kicker and how is he looking?
