    App vs ACC

I keep reading what you guys are saying about the tailback from Watauga and how he won't play tailback in the ACC, but he could at Appalachian. I hate to disappoint all you ACC fans, but there is not that much of a dropoff between Appalachian and most ACC schools right now. There is a dropoff between the two conferences, but as a school right now Appalachian is a Division 1 caliber school playing in Division IAA. Appalachian would have possibly whipped Duke, UNC, Maryland, UV (maybe), should have whipped NC State, (I watched that game, they should have won) and a couple of other high profile schools from that conference. Appalachian plays Michigan in their season opener and I would not be surprised if they played them super tough. I'm just saying that the kid from Watauga doesn't have any better of a shot at playing tailback at Appalachian versus Carolina and it is because Appalachian is the best Division IAA football school in America right now.

    Who's kidding??

Did I say that Appalachian was going to whip Michigan?????? I said, they would play them super tough. That still is beside the point I was trying to make about the bottom tier of the ACC. App. could whip a number of D1 programs right now and that is not kidding anybody. Hell, the team they played in the national championship last year whipped a couple of D1 schools in their nonconference schedule. I just find it hilarious when people think that a kid like Britenstein can play tailback at App. , but not at a DI school. The truth is as good as he is in high school, he probably won't play tailback in college. How many white boys have yall seen lately totin the rock in college. I haven't seen many. He will either run fullback or play on defense,

As of right now Chavis hasnt been attending summer workouts. (According to players who have been attending workouts). However equipment isnt officially given out until next week and practice hasnt yet started. So it isnt to late for him to change his mind.

The interesting thing to look at for McDowell is how well Junior QB Patrick (Petey) Martin is going to do. Yes, I know basically every one expects him to just hand off to Kincaid, but Martin proved on the J.V. last year that he can throw the ball. He showed poise when under pressure too. He ended the J.V. season as the best passing QB in the conference (IMO). He finished the season last year 5-1 over the last six games with the only losses in the conference coming against Alexander and against A.C. @ Reynolds. Not too bad.... So just think, if McDowell had a passing game to go along with Terrence Kincaid??? It could be BIG!!

To Cleotis, there may not ba alot of white boys running, but theres also not alot of white guys who can run like Eric.

To baseballmom i wouldn't get your hopes up, you failed to mention who he should throw the ball to? Don't get me wrong McDowell will certainly improve but don't expect a miracle, the Titans need more than a passing game to contend in the NW4A. A defence would be a start....

No I understand that McDowell wont be the league powerhouse that Reynolds is, but I do think this year they can be respectful and might even upset a few. As far as receivers... Oh, I think they will have several threats if their line will block (and the line should be more experienced this year) and let Martin throw. Like I said he had several targets on the J.V. last year who made excellent catches in clutch situations. Now given, these guys may not all be varsity players this year several were freshman last year, but I still think they will have enough to take some of the pressure off Kincaid and possibly open the field up for him. Last year's QB Matt Amerto will probably go to receiver this year and this kid can fly. Also from the J.V. last year is Nico Swepson, Barry Carpenter and Brent Rowe. Rowe was only a freshman last year so he will probably not be in the mix on varsity but all three showed good hands and an ability to catch the ball under pressure.

As for defense. Yes, that could be a problem but again lets see if our J.V. can help there too. Like I said everyone is forgetting that the Titan J.V. beat Watauga 26-16 @ Watauga last year. They also beat S. Caldwell 14-12 @ Caldwell. They shut out Freedom 20-0 at Titan stadium and they held Burns a non-Conference opponent to only 6 points too. And even the mighty A.C. Reynolds was held to under 20 points by the young Titans. So given that, there just MIGHT be a little help on defense from the J.V. too. Let's see. No miracles are expected but I think the Titans should be gamers this year!!!

To Cougar (I think we have a closet Big Ten Yank Fan here!!!)

:laugh3: They would laugh you out of the sports book in Vegas if you brought that line in front them for the game. App. will score against them, they just won't be able to hang with their depth in the fourth quarter. (Wrong Thread I know.)

Football Fever -- I was not knocking your boy or his complexion. Hell, I've seen him play. I know what the kid is capable of in a game, I was just stating a pretty obvious observation about the lack of white TBs at the D1 level. You see plenty of fullbacks and some H-backs, but not a whole lot of white TBs.

( This is a whole other conversation, but I really believe college coaches steer black players to certain positions out of habit and the same goes for white players. They are steered towards other positions as well. That is partially why you hardly ever see a white kid a tailback and just in the last ten years has it become the norm for black kids to get a shot at the QB position.)

Besides, your missing the point anyways, I was saying I thought the kid could run tailback at a lot of places, I was just saying that if he can't run at Carolina, he ain't gonna run at Appalachian, but if he could play at Appalachian he can play plenty of other places at tailback as well. Half of Appalachian starters turn downed spots a bigger places. Their quarterback was recruited by damn near everybody in the south to play in the secondary, but there were only a few schools that were smart enough to see his potential at QB. Appalachian was brave enough to offer a 6-4 160 whisp of a player and now everybody is making excuses in coaching circles as to why they didn't offer him a spot at QB. Especially now that the West Virginia Spread offense is coming into vogue all over the US.

My point was simple earlier, If the kid is good enough to run tailback at Appalachian, he sure is hell good enough to run tailback in the bottom tier of the ACC.

P.S. Cougar 31-21 and not decided until the fourth quarter. Come at me Carnac the magnificient.
