SC looked very tight in the first half. No shots were going in and couldn't hit their free throws. Actually trailed by 1 at the half. They looked a little better in the second half and built the lead up to 13 at one time. I think the young girls nerves go to them in their conference opener. Maybe getting their first conference win will help calm the nerves. They will have to play better as the games will get tougher especially away from home

    SC-WHS

At this point in the season, SC & WHS are pretty evenly matched. It was a fun game to watch. WHS missed a few point blank chip shots and about half their free throws, which could have kept the game closer. In the past, WHS players would have rolled over and quit when something went wrong. It's nice to see them playing hard all the way to the end. SC's Coach P has his ladies playing with intensity. I may be wrong, but would you considered him one of the best all-round coaches in the conference? How many coaches coach two varsity sports? We look forward to hosting you guys up in Boone, for what should be another good game. Good luck until then.

Booneheel; I thought the Wat. girls looked pretty good. The big difference in the teams is Watagua's height. It caused a lot of problems for us and will cause some others problems also. I thought SC got much better as the game went on. One thing we have to remember is that for 4 of the players who played a lot it was the very first varsity conference game and for 3 of those it was the first ever highschool conference game. I guess they could be expected to be a little tight to start off.

SCFAN I was working up your way Friday so I stopped in and watched your girls game. From what I saw I have to agree with some of your earlier post. You have some awesome young girls. They did have some trouble with the height of Watagua. They had some tall girls. I think we will match up with them a little better but they will still cause us some problems also. The freshman for SC no.12 that started is gonna be a good one. I was also impressed with the tall freshman that came off the bench. Great hands and moves for a tall girl. Only one senoir & one junoir in your starting lineup. Looks like you guys will be loaded for the next few years

I agree with you. Another thing, WHS needs to adapt to a more physical play. Ashe, Mitchell, and SC all play an agressive, physical game, which can affect our play. I think that leads us to miss the chip shots. We hope to get the foul call instead of focusing on hitting the shot. If the refs call it tight, it helps us. I'd rather play your girls sooner than later in the season since you guys will only get better. For WHS, we need to develop mental toughness to finish a game strong. We have individual talent/skills, but years of losing can be tough to overcome.
