I know most everyone knows I'm a pitchers dad, & am going to favor a generous strike zone.Todays game featured" Big Buddy" behind the plate. This fellow does not need to be behind plate. If an umpire cannot bend over & brush off home plate, he does not need to be there. If he cannot stoop down behind catch to see strike zone, he does not need to be there. You cannot try to even out pitching with different strike zones, not taking anything away from other pitcher. With older girls you cannot make pitchers throw the ball Down The MIDDLE !!!!!!!!!!!!! This particular ump has already gotten 1 pitcher hurt this yr with his strike zone, how many more will it take before something is done about it. Would sure like to know booking agent for Charlotte area, anyone have this info ?

Generally, officiating has gotten better in recent years. Many do work at getting better. Unfortunately, there are still plenty of clueless blues out there.

With the" Hot" bats out today the ball comes off so much harder than it used to.I realize you have blues with tight zones, but you just can't make em put it down the middle every time. This particular blue is the only 1 I have problem with simply because he has already gotten 1 pitch hurt, how many more ?

    and the answer is . . .

the answer is to call your booking agent, the coach or ad will have the number and ask for that particular ump to not return and you generally dont have to give a reason. we hesitated doing this waiting for retrabution (sp) from other umps, but we didnt see anything out of the ordinary. this year, most of us in our conference would like to ban about half of the umps, but it seems they're finding worse umps than the ones we have. I have to disagree about the umps getting better, ours are getting some age on them and most we've seen have predetermed outcomes to the game before it starts (favortism). hard when a team has to play 10 instead of nine. we do have some great umps in our area, but they're being sent out of our conference. :50:

    middle school umps

I watched a middle school game yesterday with two "USSSA" blues. That's not really a big deal, but we questioned a pitcher for crow-hopping BEFORE the first pitch and he said,"I don't know what that is." There were many other rules that they did not know like ......ball hit to the outfield, fielder holds up her hands because the ball is out of play but picks it up before he looks at it. He stopped a runner from getting a homerun(inside the park). His strike zone was from the shoes to the top of their helmet. When asked privately after the game about some of the calls, he calmly said," I have never done girls softball, only little league baseball." I just laughed and went to my director to prevent this from happening again.:fryingpan:

    here i go

    how about this one:

    runner on first, one out
ball hit to shortstop, underhand toss to second base for one, and second base turns and fires to first for two, beats runner by two steps - classic play.

ump calls runner at first safe . . . . . head coach calls time and goes out to question field ump. head coach asks: did she pull her foot off the bag before ball hit glove? ump said he didnt see her foot on the bag????? head coach asks : did you see her foot not on the bag??? ump states: i didnt see her foot not on the bag????? head coach repeats what ump has said to him and ump tells him to sit down. AD overheard him state to other ump after game that he didnt think we were capable of turning a double play and thats why he called it that way????? predetermined outcome.

point is, every conference has its weak umps and all umps have a bad day. if its a safety issue, remove the ump immediately with the phone call to the booking agent, if its an issue like the above example, have you ad attend a game. our ad was in attendance and the ump will never do another game for us. just use the right path to achieve your goals.

    Deep breath, count to 10

Slapper lays down a perfect slap and beats throw by 3 steps. Opposing coach yells from dugout that the young lady was out of the box (batters box was not marked by the way). Base ump calls time and confers with plate umpire. After about a 2 minute conversation, the batter is called out for being out of the box.

My discussion with the base ump goes like this- "why is she out? blue- she was out of the box- I ask what box? Blue- the box that I in my judgement is there. I say OK but your over here behind first, was her foot on the imaginery line or was it completely out? Blue- Oh it was just touching it and that's all I need to see. I ask when did the rule change to when the foot has to only touch the imaginary line as it used to be the ENTIRE foot has to be out of the imaginery box? Blue gets mad and threatens to send me to the parking lot. But I had one last question- how can you make a call like that after the play has ended? This type call is called as soon as you see it, just like when a ball is fouled off a batters foot while in the box? It's an immediate dead ball.

Blue says- I can make any call I want any time I want.

I shake my head and walk back over to the imaginery coaches box at third.

This guy was the same umpire that "undead" a ball in a game last year.

I guess I need to start counting to 100...........................
